One of my favorites is Mujadara. For those unaware, it's a dish of lentils, rice, and both fried and caramelized onions. It seems to tick all the boxes, and when you add vegan yogurt and some greens, it's delicious.

What are your favorite staples?

I've been making a good amount of beans lately, usually for use in salads/on tacos/sandwiches. So dry applications. Accordingly, I've been draining them and saving them dry, but I'm wondering - what actually is the best way to store beans? Should I be saving them in the bean water or does it not really matter?

Bonus points for healthy/low carb. Omivore, vegetarian, vegan, I eat all the things but my autistic ass is very low on spoons. I'm a good cook but even the thought of cooking instant ramen sounds daunting sometimes.

Easy things I've incorporated are protein shakes with coffee, flax milk and chia seeds during the morning. Keeps me good til 1pm or so since breakfast grosses me out during the weekdays and it takes like 2 minutes to prepare

Also wraps. Throw a protein on, condiments or a sauce like pesto or something, rip up some lettuce with your BARE HANDS, and that's it. Or if you're feeling fancy, slice up some cheese/veggies. Less than 5 minutes with minimal clean up, just a cutting board knife, plate and maybe a spoon or butter knife. Sometimes if I'm not cutting much ill just do it carefully in my hands or on my plate to avoid washing the cutting board

If mayo is too spicy for you, gulag. If you eat ghost peppers because you want to feel pain, also gulag. All food shall be of average to moderately spiciness according to the opinion of a middle aged man from India. Seriously fuck chicken wing places that dab inedible hot sauce on the corpse of animal that died to be food that’s barely edible. White people, I fucking hate them.

Denmark has recalled several spicy ramen noodle products by South Korean company Samyang, claiming that the capsaicin levels in them could poison consumers.

Three fiery flavours of the Samyang instant ramen line are being withdrawn: Buldak 3x Spicy & Hot Chicken, 2x Spicy & Hot Chicken and Hot Chicken Stew.

Denmark's food agency issued the recall and warning on Tuesday, urging consumers to abandon the product.

But the maker Samyang says there's no problem with the quality of the food.

"We understand that the Danish food authority recalled the products, not because of a problem in their quality but because they were too spicy," the firm said in a statement to the BBC.

"The products are being exported globally. But this is the first time they have been recalled for the above reason."

It's unknown if any specific incidents in Denmark had prompted authorities there to take action.

The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration said it had assessed the levels of capsaicin in a single packet to be "so high that they pose a risk of the consumer developing acute poisoning".

"If you have the products, you should discard them or return them to the store where they were purchased," it said in a statement.

It also emphasised the warning for children, for whom extremely spicy food can cause harm.

The notice has sparked heated discussion online with many amused reactions from lovers of spicy food. Many have made assertions about the Danes' low tolerance for spice.

"I had a friend from Denmark who thought tasteless breaded shrimp with a little bit of ground pepper on it was too spicy. Not surprised they think this ramen is poison," read one top-liked comment on the Reddit r/Korea group.

Samyang said it planned to "closely look into the local regulations" in Denmark and respond after that.

The noodles don't appear to have been recalled before in any other country, nor have there been other safety warnings issued.

Capsaicin is the chemical compound in chilli peppers which creates the burning feeling.

When humans eat peppers, the capsaicin is released into saliva and binds on to receptors in the mouth.

Samyang is a major South Korean food manufacturer which brands itself as the first company in the country to create instant noodles, back in the 1960s.

Joey Chestnut, a 16-time winner of the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, has been banned from the event this year, Major League Eating (MLE) has announced. The ban apparently stems from Chestnut's new partnership with a rival vegan food brand.

Chestnut has become a Fourth of July staple, winning 16 of the last 17 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating contests, including each of the last eight. Chestnut also holds the all-time record with 76 hot dogs and buns eaten, which he set in 2021.

MLE has weighed in on the decision to ban Chestnut from the even, confirming in a statement that Chestnut's partnership with a plant-based food company is the reason for the split. MLE did say that Chestnut would be allowed to compete if he renounces his partnership with the plant-based brand.

"We are devastated to learn that Joey Chestnut has chosen to represent a rival brand that sells plant-based hot dogs rather than competing in the 2024 Nathan's Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest.

"MLE and Nathan's went to great lengths in recent months to accommodate Joey and his management team, agreeing to their appearance fee requests and allowing Joey to compete in a rival unbranded hot dog eating contest on Labor Day. For nearly two decades we have worked under the same basic hot dog exclusivity provisions. However, it seems that Joey and his managers have prioritized a new partnership with a different hot dog brand over our long-time relationship.

"Joey Chestnut is an American hero. We would love nothing more than to have him at the Nathan's Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest, which he has dominated for years. There is still the opportunity for him to choose Nathan's and July 4th over the plant-bases hot dog, and return to the adoring fans if Coney Island. We hope that he returns when he is not representing a rival brand."

Not having Chestnut in attendance would be a seismic shift for the Independence Day competition. Last year, no one came close to Chestnut's 62 hot dogs and buns eaten. Geoffrey Esper, the No. 2 ranked eater in MLE, finished second with 49.

Pretty good channel, I think he's on other social media stuff as well. A surprising amount of these sandwiches are vegan, but not all of them.

The rub started to burn on the skillet so i added a bit of water near the end before it was actually burnt, then sloshed the corn around so it acted like a glaze, kept roasting for a bit and then finished it in the broiler for the char

it's my second time ever roasting corn so I decided to go with a barbecue/elote sort of seasoning, put some chipotle/ancho chile powder, garlic and onion powder, a little bit of brown sugar all smushed up in there

my plan is to scrape all the corn off after roasting and then toss it in lime juice w/ cilantro and use it as a burrito filler with my barbecue. I'm going to skip the mayonnaise part of elote b/c there's coleslaw

basically the idea of eating one big meal every day instead of 2-3 smaller ones. I like the idea of making like, some eggs, or something in the morning and eating a big ol' meal with all of the nutrients i need at like 3:30. and then like, some fruit as a desert. is this healthy?
