MODERATORS

The votes are in ... Big Trouble in Little China beat out Dungeons and Dragons: Honour Among Thieves by a hair (1 vote it seems) (see voting post here).

IMDb | Wikipedia

Please treat this as Discussion Thread for the film over the next week or two ... or if you like, write up your own posts about it!

If you have any tips on where to get it, please feel free to share (I'll probably add them to the top post)

I've certainly never seen it and look forward to watching it!

EDIT: A live watch event might happen if it can get organised. Feel free to comment about that below or put your hand up to organise it if you're interested. We could watch it live together, or schedule a time and run a megathread here. Share your thoughts below.

Honourable Mentions

Terminator 2: Judgment Day

  • For being rather popular (came a close third in the voting).
  • It was my nomination as a nostalgia visit back to popcorn 90s AI action sci-fi, which my partner hasn't seen.
  • I'll probably watch it some time soon

Soylent Green

  • Also popular in the voting, and keeping up what might be a classic dystopian trend here

The Apartment (1960)

  • Easily the oldest film suggested this round! I've never seen it but it seems to be a classic and I really appreciate that someone nominated it (and it was popular in the voting too!)

And there were other films in the nominations too you might be interested in (see the voting post linked above) ... for me personally Underwater (2020) stood out as one I'd not heard of (despite being recent), and, as an Alien fan, I'll be more than happy to give it a watch.

You know what ole Jack Burton would say at a time like this ..

The check is in the mail.

I’m in for group watch

Oh I thought the plan was to have a movie night where we all watch it together! If you ever decide to look into that I know a lot of people use cytube.

Yea that's a great idea! I should have mentioned it in the top post ... I wasn't going to try to organise that myself but if someone else was that would be very welcome and they could do it through here.

EDIT: I put a line in the top post about it, asking for people to share their thoughts or put their hand up

Would you be up for organising it?

Otherwise, what we could do is schedule a time and just have a mega thread here (it's what the "monsterdon" crew do over on mastodon)

Lemmy v19.4 fixed the chat sorting of comments so that you get a flat reverse-chron of comments, which could help too.

I can't organize but I'd love to attend!

[–] MacedWindow@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

The Monsterdon idea seems like it could work, Ive seen them have a lot of fun with that. Probably wont see a ton of activity the first movie but Im sure itll grow over time.

I'm not against organizing the cytube idea eventually, but its not something Id have time for right now. Ill start looking into whatd take though.

[–] maegul@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 months ago

Cheers for that!

Yea I think a mega thread live watch thing could work well. In part because it’s easy to organise (apart from the scheduling which is always an issue)

Unfortunately lemmy doesn’t have live updates of a mega thread (though it used to). I think it could do with a feature like that though where you can temporarily turn a thread into a live chat.

It appears to be on Disney+ AFAICT (I'm not subscribed).

[–] macarthur_park@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

It’s not on the US version of Disney+, can’t speak for other regions. It used to be on Pluto TV (free, with ads) but it seems that’s no longer an option either :(

Check your local library, they may have it on DVD or streaming.

Also, I'm currently converting my DVD collection to MP4 with MakeMKV (it's free) and Handbrake (which now has a GUI).

[–] maegul@lemmy.ml 3 points 3 months ago

Yea I’m planning to get it on dvd too, I’ve found a good local place.

[–] UKFilmNerd@feddit.uk 3 points 3 months ago

I think I have this on a deluxe DVD edition? I bought it a a blind buy and I thought it was okay. Perfect excuse to get it out again. I enjoy giving films a second chance but it doesn't necessarily mean I'll like them.

There's no rule against posting direct download links or the like, but I rather be cautious. Anyway, I will share with everyone reading that there's a 21.4 GiB torrent called Big Trouble in Little China 1986 2160p H265 DTS HD 5.1 [TheUpscaler] .mkv ;D
