NOAA “should be dismantled and many of its functions eliminated, sent to other agencies, privatized, or placed under the control of states and territories,” Project 2025 reads. The proposals roughly amount to two main avenues of attack. First, it suggests that the NWS should eliminate its public-facing forecasts, focus on data gathering, and otherwise “fully commercialize its forecasting operations,” which the authors of the plan imply will improve, not limit, forecasts for all Americans. Then, NOAA’s scientific-research arm, which studies things such as Arctic-ice dynamics and how greenhouse gases behave (and which the document calls “the source of much of NOAA’s climate alarmism”), should be aggressively shrunk. “The preponderance of its climate-change research should be disbanded,” the document says. It further notes that scientific agencies such as NOAA are “vulnerable to obstructionism of an Administration’s aims,” so appointees should be screened to ensure that their views are “wholly in sync” with the president’s.

A reminder to people that during Trump's term, his nominee to run NOAA was a member of the family that owned the private weather forecasting company AccuWeather, and a strong proponent for dismantling NOAA in favor of privatization/commercialization. The only reason that didn't happen, is because he withdrew the nomination after it going nowhere for a couple years in the Senate, in large part due to the clear conflict of interest.

For easy research for anyone interested, his name was "Barry Myers", but suffice to say, Trump and company already tried this during his last administration. It's not MAGA exclusive, it is an overall Conservative goal, and they will try again next time they either hold the executive branch, or have full control of the legislative branch; in the meantime, they have to rely on the Supreme Court to weaken government agencies.

From their (intentionally ignorant, malevolent) perspective, noaa is politicizing the weather by insisting on the chinese hoax of climate change. Don't you see they just want to unify everyone in their capitalist utopia, and dont want these commie oceanographers standing in their way.
