Ministers will introduce a crackdown on water companies through the introduction of a new Water Bill, in a major victory for i’s Save Britain’s Rivers campaign.

The Water (Special Measures) Bill will bring in tougher fines and sanctions for water companies responsible for sewage spills, the King confirmed today, as he set out the Government’s legislative plans for the next year.

It will include “severe and automatic” fines for polluting water companies and powers to pursue personal criminal liability charges against executives.

Didn't we sort this out in the late 80's and 90's? Why has this even become a thing again?

Umm...14 years of Conservative government?

[–] PixellatedDave@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Parliament opened yesterday. Sorta curios how you expect a hard on gov to have done it differently.

[–] Luvs2Spuj@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Really is no pleasing some people, even with a hard on.

Maybe have proper regulatory regime and enforcement that would not allow this shit to happen?

Or is that too much to ask from the state?

Seems like there is a pattern of bad faith corpo actors fucking over or killing people, then government "reacts" to "solve" the situation, which does not really solve anything, but guys who stole the money are in the clear ;)

Did i miss something?

Makes sense. But blaming a gov that just took over. Rather then the tories who did not give a shit at all.

Because their mouths were full of water companies share holders dicks

The fact labour did this on day one of being able to pass any laws. Is a pretty erect response.

In we switch them every other term... And they still don't do Jack shit.

Maybe y'all will have better luck.

I didn't play labour or Tories or whatever to me they are all the same guy tbh

[–] HumanPenguin@feddit.uk 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Except, last time labour were in. This issue did not exist. It was created entirly within the 14 years of Tory rule. Specifically, it is the last few years that the issue has come to light.

So, like it or not. By not playing labour or Tories as, you are attacking the current gov for actually doing something. You are very very much playing the Tories game.
