Yet you reward me with witty monologues. Curious.

Exactly. RPG nerds will be like fool! For me the dialogue is the reward!

Balance of Power, from 1985 for Amiga

Named as an inspiration for the classic board game Twilight Struggle!

!outside@lemmy.world The biggest free-to-play MMO game to ever exist with over 8+ billion people actively playing every day!

[-] AlwaysNowNeverNotMe@kbin.social 42 points 9 months ago

Free to play? The subscription is built in with the bullshit food, water, and oxygen requirements.

It’s also invite to play, needing at least 2 invitations

[-] Gestrid@lemmy.ca 5 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

There's also no reroll, and it takes forever to level up, too.

[-] pomodoro_longbreak@sh.itjust.works 3 points 9 months ago

I mean if you want to play as a living character, sure. Not every game has to be about fun jeez

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 18 points 9 months ago

"Free to play" but it's absolutely packed with subscriptions and microtransactions, you have to pay for literally everything or else you're dead almost instantly

[-] Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 9 months ago

Free to play but pay to win

Hell most of the time it's such a nagging piece of software for micro transactions that you have to pay just to not have your avatar collapse and accumulate debt

[-] Infinitus@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

Haha good one!

[-] larrymartin@kbin.social 12 points 9 months ago

What type of game is this?

[-] B_Larson@kbin.social 14 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

It's Balance of Power, which came out in 1985. It was a geopolitical simulator where you either play as the USA or the USSR. The goal is to gain influence across the world by sending economic and military aid, fighting proxy wars, stuff like that. There was also a newer version that came out in I think 1990 which introduced some newer features and slightly better graphics.

You seem like you may have enjoyed this game. You should look into 13 days. It's a boardgame about the Cuban missile crisis.
