Symbol of feminism statue branded blatantly sexist

Yeah, sure. Definitely not some prudes with their knickers in a twist

who told you that Marilyn Monroe was a symbol of feminism? she had to change her name and entire physical appearance in order to be classed acceptable, her entire life she was treated as a sex object, and even in death her corpse can't get away from creepy old men. she died being ground into powder by the millstone of capitalism

okay so the first one has a paywall, the second one says that she fought for feminist ideals but doesn't cite any examples, the third is literally a single paragraph description of a documentary. the fourth and fifth keep talking about how her personal letters show she was a leftist. the only thing I found her being active in was nuclear policy.

So you can recognize she has a reputation for being a feminist

which part of my summary gave you that idea? I'm not being sarcastic, I'd like you to be specific

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 0 points 3 months ago (1 children)

The part where you read through many different sources that viewed her as feminist

[–] tilefan@lemm.ee 0 points 3 months ago (1 children)

so not only did you not read the sources, you didn't read my summary. get fucked bro

It’s an argument on reputation

I am not sure if it’s because English isn’t your first language or what reason you aren’t able to understand that an idea being widespread proves a reputation exists more than the merits of it

Sie created the Marilyon Monroe persona herself and although she struggled with it all her life, she was far from a naive victim of the circumstances, that belittles her. She was far from stupid, she married Arthur Miller after all.

what is with people here just hallucinating things to argue against? I never called her naive, or stupid.

[–] CitizenKong@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Fair enough, my bad. I'm sorry.

[–] John_McMurray@lemmy.ca -5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, you did. Just not using those exact words.

[–] tilefan@lemm.ee 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

oh we just get to invent meanings for words? damn, your last comment was pretty fucking racist

Can someone explain to me why this is blatantly sexist? I think it's funny and I bet the 100,000 school kids who go to the museum do too.

Palm Springs? Y’know, the city in the headline?

[–] SatyrSack@lemmy.one 2 points 3 months ago

I think they mean where to?

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 months ago

So, just under the airport, then.
