Disco Elysium is fantastic

And it's a predictably huge shame that capitalists sent a wrecking ball through the studio

(And inexplicably getting rid of Scouse cuno, the fuckers)

That's disco, baby.

I believe this is called reclamation and it’s one of the most powerful aspects of capitalism, it’s really frighteningly resilient.

Edit: Commenter below is correct I meant recuperation

Recuperation

I don't believe reclamation has a particular political definition, though leftist projects will often speak of reclaiming things from capitalist culture, which is "reverse recuperation" or what the Situationists called détournement.

Thank you that is what I meant, got my vocabulary mixed up

What defense exists to this?

[–] GarbageShoot@hexbear.net 13 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You must not merely criticize, but offer a positive alternative. Capitalism has not coopted communism except it the most superficial sense (selling books, merchandise, and so on). It is all those works that bemoan capitalist conditions but offer no solution which are used to enforce capitalist realism.

and armed revolution.

You ever see a capitalist co-opt something after they get shot in the head?

[–] Flatworm7591@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 months ago

Could try out Georgia's defense strategy maybe?

[–] Vampire@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago

What's the Situationist term for this? Absorption or something.

[–] architectonas@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Co-opt I understand. But why commodify? Can somebody explain? I am just stupid

they turn it into a product or a consumption lifestyle

the college kids of yesteryear, who wore Che shirts and soviet hats, but were ultimately no threat to the system are a great example of this.

[–] architectonas@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Aaah thank you!

The capitalist will sell the rope to hang themselves

Excess ain't rebellion. You're drinking what they're selling.
