Welcome to the largest gaming community on Lemmy! Discussion for all kinds of games. Video games, tabletop games, card games etc.

Rules

1. Submissions have to be related to games

Video games, tabletop, or otherwise. Posts not related to games will be deleted.

This community is focused on games, of all kinds. Any news item or discussion should be related to gaming in some way.

2. No bigotry or harassment, be civil

No bigotry, hardline stance. Try not to get too heated when entering into a discussion or debate.

We are here to talk and discuss about one of our passions, not fight or be exposed to hate. Posts or responses that are hateful will be deleted to keep the atmosphere good. If repeatedly violated, not only will the comment be deleted but a ban will be handed out as well. We judge each case individually.

3. No excessive self-promotion

Try to keep it to 10% self-promotion / 90% other stuff in your post history.

This is to prevent people from posting for the sole purpose of promoting their own website or social media account.

4. Stay on-topic; no memes, funny videos, giveaways, reposts, or low-effort posts

This community is mostly for discussion and news. Remember to search for the thing you're submitting before posting to see if it's already been posted.

We want to keep the quality of posts high. Therefore, memes, funny videos, low-effort posts and reposts are not allowed. We prohibit giveaways because we cannot be sure that the person holding the giveaway will actually do what they promise.

5. Mark Spoilers and NSFW

Make sure to mark your stuff or it may be removed.

No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.

6. No linking to piracy

Don't share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine.

We don't want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

More expensive than WoW and FFXIV, and those games let you have a bunch of characters on the same sub. Amazing business move

[–] Skipcast@lemmy.world -2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

They recently made it possible to have multiple characters on one account

[–] Commiunism@lemmy.wtf 19 points 9 months ago (1 children)

You still pay for membership separately tho

[–] Skipcast@lemmy.world 12 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Really? Well that's fucking stupid.

[–] Commiunism@lemmy.wtf 9 points 9 months ago

Yeah, it's a real sore spot for the community too - people often have 2 or more accounts due to various account types like mains who have no restrictions, ironmen who can't trade and gotta get everything themselves, group ironmen which is ironman but co-op in a 5 person group and other modes that add additional limitations.

[–] CrunkBy@lemmy.world 18 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Now it's no longer cheaper than WoW. Great!!!

[–] Lowpast@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

There's grandfather rates plus bulk discounts!

[–] Commiunism@lemmy.wtf 1 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (2 children)

Not anymore, they're killing grandfather rates with this update

EDIT: Nope, it's only for 12-month premier club deal that happens once a year

[–] Lowpast@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Read closer- they are not removing grandfathered rates for 1 and 6 month packages that do not let membership lapse for more than 14 days.

[–] Commiunism@lemmy.wtf 1 points 9 months ago

Oh yeah, ty for correction.

[–] Pika@sh.itjust.works 1 points 9 months ago

Only for premeire club and that was already a thing from what I understand

Holy moly I didn't know you could still play old RuneScape. I think I found my account like 8 years ago after not playing for a decade and I was like "neat" and signed off. Lol

[–] Jimmycakes@lemmy.world 16 points 9 months ago

Its wildly popular

[–] ThoranTW@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

From the sounds of it, your account would be on the "original" Runescape 3, rather than the Old-school Runescape this post is about.

Old-school Runescape is essentially a fork of a random backup they found of the game as it existed in 2007 that they released in 2013 after a lot of dissatisfaction about how Runescape had changed over that timespan.

None of the accounts/characters from the original game were migrated.

[–] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 1 points 9 months ago

Oh this is good to know. That's neat.

[–] Luminocta@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

It is popular and it has a huge amount of added content with raids, quests, areas and boss fights that are super hard.

I lost all my Spirit when I grinded for the best sword, I forget what it was called, then my account was compromised :/. So many hackers back then.

jagex is a very shitty company and shitty companies don't want money, they want all the money. they will kill this game eventually. I hate jagex, from jagex accounts which is just a blatant attempt to phase out 3rd party tools and lock people to their ecosystem (which also fucked me over because the new account system blocks my entire country) to their customer service which is horrendous.

now they're raising prices to appear more profitable probably to trick another prospective buyer and get tossed around again.

[–] RangerJosie@lemmy.world 9 points 9 months ago

Kingdom of Loathing is better.

[–] Panda 6 points 9 months ago (1 children)

People still play the old version of Runescape? Wow I wasn't aware of this.

[–] ECB@feddit.org 17 points 9 months ago

It's even more popular than the 'main' version!

[–] LucidNightmare@lemm.ee 6 points 9 months ago

Hello! Just going to plug 2009scape, which is an open source version of old school RuneScape. It is available to download and play entirely offline with single player. It is just fine enough if you just want to scratch that age old RuneScape itch. :)
