Maybe I've just not figured it out, but it's there a way to navigate the subs on a different instance without switching accounts? Like going directly to linux@programming.dev?

Example, I'm on lemmy.ca but I want to subscribe to /c/linux on programming.dev. I'm struggling hard to navigate to this community, as it's not turning up in search either.

Edit: I found it on search, but it's made worse by the fact that search is not showing the instance of the communities, so you just end up with a bunch of communities and a subscriber count based on your local instance, which means pretty much nothing

Try searching [!linux@programming.dev](/c/linux@programming.dev) in the post feed (not the left nav) and then Go to Community orr you could go to About Instance for programming.dev and hit Browse Communities and scroll until you find c/linux (about 7 down)

Both work great, thanks!

The View Communities is actually exactly what I've been looking for. It's not super intuitive to get to About Instance as you first need to find a community on that instance, but it works.

Even less intuitive is that there are two different searches that do different things. I'd definitely expect the sidebar search to be able to Go to Community as well.

Would be nice if there was a "search instance" somewhere. I tried to use the left nav one with the format when I first heard it was added and I was also surprised it worked on one but not the other

This is very useful, thank you for the information.

You can access it by formatting the link like this

/c/linux

[/c/linux](/c/linux@programming.dev)

That will make the link relative to your instance

For some reason if you put the entire community name with the instance in the link text it will not load in Connect for Lemmy, trying to find a user instead.

I'll try to flag it as a bug soon.

Doesn't that mean I need to post a comment somewhere with that content? I just want to navigate there.

I'm not sure how else you could get there unless subscribed while using the app.
