Existence does not equate allowance. Have you reported their profile?

Their user name is their user ID. I assume it has been handled now? What's your take on that after these public accusations and it supposedly being the reason to make your own spaces?

I report stuff when I come across it. I regularly get info on action being taken.

It's a community platform. Individual, manual username change assessment and approval is infeasible. What's your expectation?

What do you mean by harassment? You didn't specify.

Constant harassment? No because I block people at the drop of a hat. Unprompted friend request? Blocked. Playing music in global chat? Blocked. Shitty username? Blocked. Don't deal with people, a single infraction is enough to remove internet strangers forever.

To my knowledge in ex. TF2, despite the block, you'll still see that shitty profile picture

Constant harassment? ... a single infraction is enough to remove internet strangers forever.

I think maybe you don't quite understand, doesn't matter how many we block there is always one more phobe just around the corner, and being attacked by these people can be quite taxing emotionally in the long run.

There will always be another shitty person and yes it is exhausting. My partner is non-binary, I understand some of it. But online is literally the easiest place to be an ID and not a person. Don't put anything in your profile, don't hint stuff with your usernames, make your pfp a cartoon sheep, and only express anything that might bring harassment in places that will accept it, and make that a separate identity. I use the same username everywhere and it's unique, but I'm also not a target.

I can empathize with it being a problem, but there are (annoying and unfair) steps to mitigate it. It might even involve removing or abandoning all of your online identities so you can't be tracked down, but people get doxed all the time and have to start over.

OP and me are venting, we are well aware that the issues can be mitigated to some extent. Also, this post is literally about someone putting hateful messages in their username and profile picture, hiding your identity won't exactly help then :(

shitty person here downplaying bigotry? Blocked

Good! That's what I want to hear.

I also think I want to make a list of these accounts, I wonder if there are tools to scrape pfps and look for similar ones or any lists of them that already exist

I reported their account and a couple of other ones, hopefully steam will do something eventually.
