Hello fellow Calvin and Hobbes fans!
About this community and how I post the comic strip… The comics are posted in chronological order on the day (usually) they were released. Posting them to match the release date adds a bit of fun and nostalgia to match the experience of reading them in the newspaper for first time. Many moons ago, I would ask my Dad to save the newspaper for me everyday so I could read my favorite comic strips. It really sucked when I missed a day. Only years later, when I got the books was I able to catch up on the missed strips.

I never knew what he looked like.

It's the only photo I've ever seen of him
He of course looks like Calvin's dad
He of course looks like Calvin's dad
But with Uncle Max's mustache. That's a key difference.
haha yea. he looks great.
Yeah it was a self portrait.
Gosh, I never knew he did a commencement speech. Watterson has always been someone I look up to. His work is still so inspirational to how i want to approach life and work. He's the real deal and I salute that he did his work his way, and not the way the suits wanted. This speech reinforces all of that.
Good number of heavy lines to understand from his speech. "Most of us discover where we were headed once we arrive".. a philosophy I've built out of that was trying new things even when I thought I'd found the best, new places, restaurants, ideas.
Life's all about the experiences, even the ones far off the beaten path.
This was a good read. Anyone who'se purchased any of his anthologies will be familiar with some of the content, but the appeal to live a fulfilling life and how hard that can be as you get older was refreshing.
He's an inspiration.
I bet the college regretted making him paint over his ceiling painting.
If it were still visible, I bet art students would pay extra to stay in that room. I wonder how Watterson would feel about that.
