I feel like not enough people talked about this since the Unknowable Domain lore dropped.
I've heard people saying things like Ratio has enough intelligence, but since his goal and mindset is different, he isn't acknowledged by Nous.
I say people underestimate the members of Genius Society... SEVERELY.
The new lore of the Unknowable Domain showed how much of a different breed the people in the Genius Society actually are compared to others. There are reasons why among the population of trillions (or more) in the HSR universe, exist only 84 members.
Patavia, known as one of the most talented and accomplished individual in the Intelligentsia Guild. She alone was already one of the brightest people outside of the Genius Society, once became the ruler of the Scepter system. Each Scepter is said to "surpass all that we comprehend" and "annihilate a whole galaxy in a nanosecond", and the number of them are probably around a thousand. Patavia connected her mind to the core of the system almost became another Rubert (the keyword here is "almost", she didn't crown herself to completely become Rubert). Even with the entire Scepter system as her new nervous system, and the answer appeared right in front of her, she could not understand it. The only thing she could do was note all of it down, the thing which later become the solitary waves theory.
Said thing was solved by Herta alone.
As a quote from Simulated Universe: "Even after borrowing Rubert II's brain and peeking into Nous' vast knowledge, a Mundanite still cannot become a genius."
Tl;dr: A scholar dedicated her entire life to a research, borrowed a calculation system that imitated Nous themselves still can't even begin to compare to a real Genius. The Genius Society members are literally built/born DIFFERENT.
