News and Discussions about Reddit

Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

:::spoiler Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

I really don't get the point of coming to Lemmy to bitch about reddit, especially something most people who left reddit already know.

Why are you making new reddit accounts?

[–] BigJim@lemmy.world 63 points 1 year ago (2 children)

This is a community about Reddit. If you don't want to see people bitching about Reddit, I would suggest you unsubscribe and block it.

[–] Cleverdawny@lemm.ee 18 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Exactly. It's easy to block instances and communities here. One of the things I like about Lemmy.

[–] Jumper775@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (2 children)

As far as I know you can’t block instances here. I wish we could though because I don’t need to see anything from those nsfw sites or lemmygrad.

[–] Cleverdawny@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I've got Lemmygrad blocked using connect for lemmy

[–] Jumper775@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Is that a client? I can’t see any way to do that in voyager.

[–] Cleverdawny@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah it's an android client

[–] Jumper775@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Ahh, well I am on iOS unfortunately.

[–] PeleSpirit@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

But you can block this community on voyager. That would do the trick.

Because sometimes there's actual news here...

Not just someone complaining about how the new account they just made for reddit is limited. Especially when it's something that's been around for like a decade.

Really not sure what's confusing about that

[–] all-knight-party@fedia.io 8 points 1 year ago

Complaining is pointless. Unless the mods make a new community about reddit discussion and a separate one for news, with both heavily moderated to focus the content, then you won't get only what you want to see.

Like everybody else said, it's a community about Reddit, not Reddit news, anything about Reddit goes, even if it's sentimental bitching

[–] garyyo@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

You are in a "bitch about reddit" community complaining about people bitching about reddit. Bruh, this is why this place was created, to bitch about reddit.

Your second point is valid, also this feature is to prevent spam from newly created accounts so why is this worthy to even complain about? New accounts shouldn't be trusted as much as well established accounts, and it's generally not that difficult to get enough karma just by commenting. For humans it does not pose that big of a barrier to entry, for bots it poses some.

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Why are you here?

[–] Thorny_Thicket@sopuli.xyz 34 points 1 year ago (3 children)

This has been the case for atleast the last few years and for perfectly understandable reasons

[–] _haha_oh_wow_@kbin.social 8 points 1 year ago

What's not perfectly understandable is why they allow BS subs like FreeKarma4U that defeat the entire point of this system.

[–] PeleSpirit@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

I think I joined in 14 or 15 and it was like that.

[–] btaf45@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Nope. It only happens when you have negative karma. That means any opinion contrary to the group think will be silenced.

[–] Tibert@compuverse.uk 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Well it's not that bad, tho why? why would this be restricted?

Is it to reduce spam with "low" quality content which doesn't make people stay longer?

[–] dgmib@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

Whenever a spammer or spam bot is identified through reporting and gets banned, the spammer just makes a new account and continues. As a result spam accounts tend to be “young” accounts with low karma.

But limiting the posting and commenting powers of all young accounts and accounts with low karma, they limit how quickly someone can spam Reddit. There’s also less obvious limits to like limiting activities from the same ip addresses. (To prevent working around the limits by simply creating 100s of accounts at a time)
