Wow I really needed this. I mean it. Sometimes I need some basic instructions to remind me of what good amid these.

Fall is my favorite season for many of the situations in that comic. It truly is a magical season.

Can someone explain to me what is fun about apple picking?

But you have to pay for apple picking

[–] GreenMario@lemm.ee 10 points 1 year ago

There is another way...

Is there anything more first world than paying to perform labor Mexicans do for $6 an hour

[–] query@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

Ideally we'd have just that and not poverty wages.

Most people that would go apple picking aren't getting that many, like half a basket, maybe 15-20 pounds at most. It takes like 10 minutes and you're paying by the pound for what you take home for half the price or less than you would at the store.

It can be a fun activity for kids, I don't see what you're upset about.

Oh, I didn't realise people would pay to do it - public fruit trees are fairly common in England. Apples and plums especially, but I've picked pears and cherries too, and there are even figs supposedly.

But apples are free!

I've never picked apples at an orchard, but I did go to the orchard and gorge myself on apple cider doughnuts, apple cider, and basically half an apple pie. That, I can recommend heartily.

Now this makes sense to me

It is just a fun, meaningful activity you can do outdoors, which you can enjoy afterwards when you eat them directly or make apple sauce/jam/cake/crumble/strudel etc.

Have you done it? I haven’t picked apples in a long time but I had fun picking peaches this summer.

[–] ohlaph@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Apples are often fresh in the fall and they are delicious.

Free food is free food. And they are tasty with caramel like many things.

[–] curiousaur@reddthat.com 1 points 1 year ago

Pretty sure those are persimmons.

Being from the UK, it took me a couple of seconds longer to get the meaning.

Yeah, he deserves a great autumn.
