You mean like you want a link to a torrent or actually transfer you the files?

animepacks007 on Nyaa has a bunch of really good collections of anime series, including Gundam.

The Gundam ones.

Torrent is good and I did find these but they are giant files. I was hoping for something easier on the hard drive.

They're 720p and X264 compressed. Maybe there are some x265/HEVC ones available, but IDK. I saw one torrent was doin' standard definition (?) Cat's Eye episodes within like 50MB per episode with X265 encodes, but I don't think other Gundam ones are gunna' be much smaller or more convenient.

Maybe I clicked the wrong quality cause i was looking at 6gb per movie

I see the thing now, these are full multi episode series, I assumed the rest of the uc stuff made after char's counterattack was just a few movies and stuff, holy shit this is a lot. Do you know what is good?

Do you want to watch the alternate universe stuff or only the UC era, or only stuff Yoshiyuki Tomino directly worked on? Iirc for UC what comes after Char's Counterattack (fictional chronology-wise) is

  • bunch of OVA's set during/after the OYW (08th MS Team, 0080 War in the Pocket, 0083 Stardust Memory, Thunderbolt)

  • Gundam Unicorn

  • Gundam Hathaway movie

  • big time skip

  • F91

  • Victory Gundam

  • Gundam no Reconguista (???)

if you just want to watch the Gundam shows Tomino directed after CCA (he did some other stuff like Ideon):

  • F91
  • Victory Gundam
  • Turn A Gundam
  • Gundam no Reconguista (???)

I was gonna do the UC stuff chronologically

[–] CriticalOtaku@hexbear.net 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Cool, Unicorn is the next show chronologically then

I do recommend Turn A after Victory anyway, it feels like a very nice capstone/epilogue for the Universal Century and all the themes Tomino was working with there despite technically being a alternate universe.

Oh, I mean like I gotta go back and do origin and the stuff that takes place during the one year war and stuff. Then I'll do post counterattack

[–] CriticalOtaku@hexbear.net 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Ooh ok.

Origin is kinda weird in the ways it retcons Char's character a lot so some people don't consider it canon lol. Doan's Island is a nice high budget re-telling of a (notoriously bad) episode from the original series that does a pretty good job of being faithful to the source material while improving everything that matters (storytelling, animation, etc.)

Most of the OYW ova's are pretty good, 08th MS Team and War in the Pocket especially. Stardust Memory isn't though, but it bridges the gap between 0079 and Zeta. Thunderbolt is a neat darker take on Gundam, but also it may or may not be canon? So there's that.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Didn't know that about origins, just seemed like a good story to see. I'm not super.concerned about cannon, I'll decide that on my own. I didn't mind the island episode of the 79 series but that seems neat. Is there a chronology reference? I guess also what would you personally recommend for someone who has seen 79, zeta (loved zeta), zz and chars counterattack? I figured starting from the start with the uc stuff and kinda just going with it, but if you have any other recommendations for where to go next I'm open.

Sorry for the reddit-logo link but here you go

Honestly I'd recommend Doan's Island, 08th MS Team and War in the Pocket first if you're looking at OYW stuff. Just good stand-alone stories that flesh out the Gundam universe. After that I'd just move on ahead to Unicorn and Hathaway, because those directly continue the story after Char's Counterattack. Then after that maybe Thunderbolt and the rest of Tomino's stuff.

Origins is an ok watch but it's kinda superfluous as a prequel (also the Char retcons issue), 0083 is just bad and safe to skip. Thunderbolt is good, but it's also kinda a more modern take on Gundam that I'd suggest you come back to after having seen stuff like Unicorn.

Oh and whatever you do avoid the new Netflix 3d Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance like the plague. It's bad in so many ways I don't have the time to get into now lol.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 2 points 6 months ago

Cool! I'll check out the one year war stuff, feels like a safe bet for what I'm looking for. I was hoping tommostlt get OVAs and one offs instead of entire other series. I'm a star trek fan and am finding there's too ma u TV serieses

Depends if you only want to watch UC stuff or not. If you care only for UC stuff then you don't have that much more to watch after CCA I don't think (not sure if you've seen Zeta before CCA or not). Zeta, Double Zeta, Igloo, War In The Pocket, Thunderbolt is all pretty good. Hathaway movie looks super good (haven't watched it yet).

My favourite Gundam thing I've seen so far is Turn-A-Gundam.
