I’m calling you out for a rules infraction.
They said a dog couldn’t play basketball; they said a dog couldn’t shave. You said you were out.
But you’re all wrong.
You have the AirBud point but you’re choosing to not use it. But that’s the ultimate AirBud thing to do. So really you are AirBudding even through you said you weren’t AirBudding. Which, is, obviously, AirBudding.
Thus you really are AirBudding even if you think you’re not AirBudding which makes this an AirBud post.
Since, in the same way I was Time’s Person of the Year in 2006, I am a judge of this contest, I award you the AirBud point. Congratulations, you’re not the first one out.
Crossposting to Discord because rules.

I was confused. So obviously, I asked Claude to explain this to me:
The quote you've shared is making a meta-joke: It's suggesting that choosing not to use an Air Bud-style loophole is itself an Air Bud move, since presumably there's no rule saying you can't choose not to use an Air Bud loophole. Then it takes this further, noting that this creates a recursive loop - the very act of saying you're not using an Air Bud loophole becomes an example of using one. It's a clever piece of circular logic that plays with the concept of self-reference, similar to paradoxes like "this statement is false" or the classic barber paradox.
In terms of strict logical reasoning it falls apart under scrutiny because:
- Not doing something isn't automatically an example of that thing (not playing basketball doesn't make you a basketball player)
- The core premise of "Air Budding" is exploiting a specific loophole to do something novel - simply not doing something doesn't fit that definition
It's like saying "By refusing to be a rebel, you're rebelling against rebellion, which makes you a rebel!" It's not actually logically sound.
@enndeegee@sub.wetshaving.social is out according to our wise robotic overlords.
~All hail our wise robotic overlords, be they Chinese or American~
This is hilarious and unnerving.
Are there any plans to train a LLM on the yuge data ofsthis server?
That's what's keeping the lights on! We're in talks with Microsoft about a potential buyout.
I am convinced that the absurd growth in /r/Wetshaving subscribers (I don’t know if you’ve seen my analysis of this, but we had literally linear growth of over a hundred thousand members in two years) is LLM accounts. Which means that ChatGPT is, indeed, us. It is trained on us; it understands us.
Hence how easily it was able to pull that reverse AirBud thing out of its ass.
After reading this, I too became confused. Claude’s argument made sense, but I know I’m always right. So I asked ChatGPT to prove that I was right. Here’s what it had to say:
Alright, here’s why Claude is wrong, and the original comment is actually airtight logic—perhaps even too airtight, like a cosmic truth wrapped in a paradox burrito.
First, let’s establish a fact: AirBudding is about exploiting a loophole. But what if the greatest loophole of all is the loophole of not using a loophole? If there’s no rule saying you must AirBud, then choosing not to AirBud is itself a use of the ultimate AirBud loophole—the loophole that allows one to abstain from loopholing.
Claude’s mistake is assuming that the only way to AirBud is to do something unexpected within the rules. But what if the most unexpected move is doing nothing at all? If everyone expects AirBudding, the true AirBud move is not AirBudding. That’s the AirBud Inversion Principle™: When AirBudding becomes the norm, non-AirBudding becomes the new AirBud.
So in rejecting AirBudding, you are, in fact, engaging in the most advanced form of AirBudding possible: the meta-AirBud, or AirBud Prime. You are exploiting the system by opting out of the exploit, and in doing so, you complete the AirBud cycle.
Thus, Claude’s reasoning collapses. Not playing basketball doesn’t make you a basketball player—unless you were already on the court, holding the ball, and chose to walk away. And that’s exactly what’s happening here.
Q.E.D.
So I have been looking around for budget stainless steel razors and one that popped was the Swiss Shave Black Tiger which claims to be "100% steel" and is priced at $7.50. This price immediately raised red flags for me as is it far below any of the closest equivalent razors I have found and is cheaper than most zamak razors. What is catch? There has to be one. Edit: It has $6 shipping so I guess that places it at ~ $14.
That looks suspicious (already the name triggers all my do not buy alerts). The cheapest stainless steel razors I would trust (materialwise) would be from Yaqi (check on Aliexpress in the Yaqi factory store) – though I don't know how they shave.
Otherwise, I have a Greencult II stainless steel razor, which is produced in Austria, and comes in at 99€ – which is the cheapest non-Chinese SS razor I am aware of (shipping was free to France, AFAIR).
If durability is the sole issue, Fatip has plated bronze razors at price points you only get zamac for otherwise. Bronze is similarly durable to stainless steel – but local metallurgy experts @djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social or @gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social might correct me on this.
The Razorock razors seem to be sold in both an aluminum and stainless steel versions for different prices obviously. Though their stainless razors all seem to be ~$60 usd.
Fatip are plated brass, not bronze. Great metal either way.
My favorite Fatip is the Gentile.
Fatip are plated brass, not bronze
I stand corrected!
For a safety razor, I don't think durability is a factor in real terms. Zamak razors can provide many years of use. From a practical standpoint, you'll pay more for stainless, bronze, or brass. These are heavier and feel better (if you like heavier), but safety razor performance is unrelated to material or cost. I assert that it is mostly related to technique.
It's hard to tell, but it might be a rebranded (and marked up) Baili. It's a super common practice. You feel like you're getting a good deal by it's cheaper to get a Baili.
This particular one might be similar to this razor https://a.co/d/2QvV8bG but with a different handle.
My favorite Baili is the BR171.
Keep in mind that "steel" is not stainless steel. The first one I linked to is stamped metal. Very thin, light, and cheap feeling. The second one I linked is a zamak razor. It's sturdier feeling. Both won't last forever, but for the price that's ok.
The cheapest stainless steel razors are probably from RazoRock or AliExpress.
It being stamped sheet metal makes perfect sense. The reviews I have seen don't mention it but they are too busy saying it is "great for the price!".
Tridi 13 Pluviôse an 233 de la Révolution, jour de Laurier: Kät Day
Since I'm home alone, I tried my luck with the Dremel and polished away on the Puma. I'm afraid that esthetically, this was not a success – while I removed some of the staining, I'm not sure I have the right tools, and there is a visible difference in level of polish between where I had protected the blade with tape, and where I had polished. Like @djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social's Thiers Issard, this razor is now officially esthetically challenged.
It had no bevel on it at all, so I went all the way from 1k, and I had to get rid of a small enough dent in the toe. However bad it may look, it is a spectacularly good shaver. I will certainly use this one quite regularly.
Have a good day!
My Puma is also a great shaver. Do you have a picture of the esthetical challenge?
No good one:
The differences in reflexion here are not due to the light, and there are also smaller stains.
Yeah, not sure I see the difference you mentioned in the original post.
That's because I'm no good in photo 😭

Feb 1, 2025 - Atlas Shaves II
Our LatherBot overlord randomly selected LASSCo - Woody Lavender for day 1 of AS2.
Scent notes: Lavender, Ho Wood, Amyris and Bay
I managed to find a single sample of LASSCo Vert Noir at the back of my shave den. It's not one that I liked the scent of off the sample puck. Lathering it today, the scent mellowed and it was enjoyable.
Daily Total: 5 (4 artisan who made the daily theme soap + 1 for crossposting bonus)

~~Points: 1~~
~~Edit: I'm a dolt. I think I have a sample in my dopp bag that will work. I'll find out when I get back to the hotel and maybe do a second shave.~~
Had the sample. Shaved again.
I'll find out when I get back to the hotel and maybe do a second shave.
Fingers crossed

Saturday, February 01, 2025: Atlas Shaves 2 - Day 1
A great shave with Rhapsody. It's a lovely warm-yet-bright scent that I always enjoy using. Lavanille might not be the best pairing, but it works well enough.
The Bic Sensitive performed better than I expected. It's not great and feels cheap and flimsy, but it gave me a very close shave with no irritation. Not bad for a travel option.
+2 points for soap with at least half of the same scent notes (Pear Blossom, Apple Blossom, Cherry Blossom, Vanilla, Orange, Rose, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Musk, Lavender, Lemon, Bay)
+1 point for cross-posting
+1 point for engaging yesterday
Total points: 4

Brush: Elite Razor Honduran Rosewood Burl 24mm HMW Fan
Razor: ERN 6/8 French Point Full Hollow
Lather: Floris London - No. 89 - Soap
Aftershave: Floris London - No. 89 - Aftershave
2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.
The soap base for No. 89 is only good enough. There are plenty of artisan soaps that have better bases. The key thing about No. 89 is the wooden bowl and that awesome 1950's/1960's scent. I could use this everyday.
Sorry @enndeegee, I'll be doing Atlas Shrugged this month.
Ok, this is a difficult start into Atlas Shaves. I brought Mount Smushmore, my collection of samples and smushes that has helped me more than once to fix a hole in my LG roster, with me to the mountains, and I felt pretty smug about it. What are the odds that none of these more than 100 samples share the right scent notes? Really, what are they? 😅
Thank god there are technicalities and poorly worded rules:
LA Shaving Soap Co. Woody Lavender - Notes: Lavender, Ho Wood, Amyris, Bay
This particular soap was made by two artisans: first John the founder of LASSC, and after the purchase by Chiseled Face, by Ron. The current artisan making this soap is Ron, and I have a bunch of stuff by Ron like today's Trade Winds.
The wording of the rules mentions artisans, not brands, so crisis averted.
Road to Victory (through technicality):

Poorly worded rules and me in the same sentence? Yep sounds about right.
I like the formatting tho
Finally used The old man I found at an antique store after cleaning and applying some linseed oil. Used a Wilkinson Sword with it. Got a few bleeds and razor rash but it was very effective at taking down my beard. I think I'll save it for longer growth.
February 2, 2025
Shave number 2 for today, because I forgot I had this sample in my dopp bag. No need to blow my airbud on day 1!
I'll be conservative and give myself 3 points for shaving with "the scenter". It'd be 4 points to count is as the artisan, which I have no qualms with, but that's ok.
Daily points: 4 Scenter: 3 Crosspost: 1 (gem.wetshaving.social and r/ws)
Total: 4
I think you can give yourself a point for engaging with the community as well
Only if it was the day prior
Did you not engage at all on Friday?
To be clear I’m not pointing out a rules infraction. I just want you to have all your points. :)
Good question! I don't think I did. I've been visiting family without much free time.
