Shout out to the menial workers at Apple Maps who are going to have a crap day at work tomorrow because of the thing their boss made them do, so they don't get fired and replaced by someone else who would do it.

That's why they made Apple intelligence so minded numbingly stupid. Job security. If it were capable Apple management would have replaced everyone.
You should abandon Apple for Linux anyways. Apple doesn't care about you, your privacy, or anything but them making more money, from you. This has been proven time and time again by evidence and whistleblowers.
Eh, out of all my own traffic I’ve MITM’d it’s mostly been third-party SDKs in apps doing creepy shit.
Down to hate on Gulf of America but when it comes to privacy it’s debatable.
That’s odd; my Apple Maps says “Gulf of Mexico” and searching for “Gulf of America” shows 0 results.
Unlike Google Maps/Earth….
Just wait, they said they would enable it globally soon enough.
You have to access it from a US IP address to get the new name.
Irrelevant: Scared me for a sec, thought I had an IP leak as I VPN to Switzerland but remembered I explicitly allowed Maps to be routed through a US VPN.
It says my report is “in review” and I’ll be notified when they review it.
I wonder how that will go, and how fast.
I assume they have mechanisms to just push mass reports into a black hole. Or similar.
Don't worry. They can send the reports to /dev/null where they will be read by Tim Apple himself when he checks it.
I don't really know how to feel about this.
Was it decreed by an absolute narcissist for no reason other than the kind of blatant arrogance Americans are notorious for? Absolutely.
Was it also completely legal? As far as I can tell. It's not really these companies' place to resist map name changes, it's the citizens' and our representatives'.
Does it have anything at all to do with fascism? No.
At the same time it's the map's job to describe the world. Even for something like nation states where there's an official name, the map uses the common name. Our maps say France, not French Republic.
Changing the displayed name for a body of water shared by several nations doesn't make much sense, especially when the common name has yet to follow.
At least that's from the perspective of one of the goals the map ostensibly wants to serve.
fascism is when i don’t like something, right?
isn't it best when we water down terms to meaninglessness? /s
I'm going to start calling it the United States of America of Mexico and sometimes Canada.
The full name of Mexico is "Mexican United States". Not joking.
United States of Amerixco
Mexico Jr.
A waste of our time for sure, but I did it as well.
I just sent one in to Google Maps. Clearly it must be a bug. No such place exists
