Hey everyone.

Does anyone else have the same issue with the comments not being displayed properly? For lots of comments it shows the "view parent" link which just links to the main post again. It's impossible to see the actual parent comment.

I've also seen comments switch indentation places

This happens to me when comment sort is set to Top. Try changing it to Hot.

[-] haych@lemmy.one 5 points 11 months ago

I changed back to Hot, comments are still messing up.

[-] Waldhuette@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

Yes same for me. It happens regardless of setting. So I assume it's unrelated to that.

Mine is set to "Top". Funny enough had to switch to different app to even see the comments here on my post. On Sync it says there are no comments even though I got notifications in Sync about replies.

Bug with Lemmy itself in v0,18.3, can be fixed with a wonky hack.

Until then, just use Hot sort instead of Top.

But I already use sorting by Top and it doesn't work. It doesn't matter which sorting I usw. They all are broken.

Does the missing comment show up in the Lemmy web UI?

I think this just happens when a comment gets deleted. Sync can show the child comments, but the Lemmy UI just hides the entire thread.

I think it has something to do with the language settings, for example I couldn't see the comments on this thread, I logged in via the web version changed my settings to include Undetermined, English and my native language and now I can see the comments (both using the web app and Sync).

Hope that helps :)

PS: And in order to post this comment, I had to select explicitly that it is written in English...

PS2: Setting the language settigns also resolves the issue that OP reported initially.

I just checked web portal and only had undetermined selected. Now added English and it started working. So I guess Lemmy bugs out if someone posts a comment marked as English but you haven't included english in your own list.

Seems like weird behavior to implement.

on a sidenote: are you able to submit posts from the app? Mine says "Coming soon"

[-] sanguinepar@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

No, that part isn't ready yet. I saw someone say it might be in the next week or so.

[-] ollie@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

yep I'm having the same issue, it's like the comment tree got interveted

[-] bleistift2@feddit.de 1 points 11 months ago

Yes. I tend to think that my instance isn’t catching up, since the comment is there when I visit the post on its home instance. But that’s just an uninformed guess.

I'm seeing this too, it's hard to tell if it's a Sync issue or defederated instances (Beehaw users?)

[-] victorz@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

I'm having some comment related issues as well where comments don't show up in the threads when I click on them via my inbox. Not sure if that's related.
