Summary

A nationwide strike has crippled air travel at 13 German airports, including Frankfurt and Munich, as trade union Verdi pushes for higher wages and better benefits for 2.5 million public sector workers.

The strike, following failed negotiations, led to over 1,000 flight cancellations at Frankfurt and complete shutdowns at Berlin and Hamburg airports, affecting around 510,000 passengers.

More strikes targeting public sector facilities are expected this week, with the next wage talks scheduled for Friday in Potsdam.
