Glued acrylic plates together with Acrifix and fixed them to a retractable shelf for our trash. The plates are attached with two screws and silicone caulk.
I'd happily throw my trash in that!

When joining acrylic, the absolute best method is to use Weld-On 3. It's not a glue but a solvent. It dissolves the acrylic where they meet and hardens to be as strong as one solid piece.
