Has anyone ever found a job via linkedin? I got the impression that the jobs there are fake and used to harvest CV data or something (particularly those quick apply ones)
Yes, I've always found jobs via linked in.
Though, I have been most successful through having recruiters reaching out to me directly rather than applying for jobs. Applying directly to companies is a recipe for being ignored.
I've always got jobs by using linkedin. Don't even know how people get one without.
But usually it's by interaction with people aggressively sending messages, so recruiters coming and asking if I want a new job.
I've not used the new feature they have where jobs are listed and you can apply from there, but at least some of the ones I've been sent messages for sometimes match the entries there.
I exist on it, but I only interact with it every 5-10 years when I'm looking to switch up jobs.
That interaction is generally to update my work timeline with what happened in the gap, and browse through the sea of borderline spam from recruiters.
My current job didn't even involve linkedin at all, so might not even bother with it next time around
Personally I'm still there as I found a few interesting jobs there. Hopefully a European alternative will be emerge, but at the moment the only one (Xing) seems very German centric
Maybe new non German accounts in Xing will also attract international recruiters. Or?
Xing is good though. There are more and more non-Germans there too. Have been there for several years.
My profile's there, currently just collecting recruiter's messages asking if i'm interested in totally unrelated technologies.
Sadly there's not much of an alternative. The other big contender is Xing but it's made by germans to germans with ads in german so... they're not an alternative.
I also only use it to find jobs because it's easy to find only openings posted directly by the employer. I won't deal with agencies or 3rd party recruiters on principle, not least because they don't know what they're talking about and will send a bin man to an astronaut job if they can get away with it (armageddon_movie_but_this_time_its_a_huge_ball_of_orbiting_space_junk.gif)
The other big contender is Xing
This looks pretty good - although I see what you mean about the preponderance of German jobs! A quick search turned up 2000 in Germany, 200 in Austria and Switzerland, and just 4 in non-German-speaking countries. So at least there are some! Maybe they'll become more popular Europe-wide in time, I'll keep an eye on them.

It's basically impossible to not be there. It's the main way to find work. But the whole site sucks.
I've made my Xing account but still need to fill it in like my linkedin. Currently LinkedIn still gets me recruiters weekly so no way am I leaving it for now, not that I'm actively applying but I don't want to shoot myself in the foot.
I'm on it, but only really use it for the Learning add-on and when I'm looking for a job

Everyone i know that actually used it for job hunting, found themselves in line with 8000 other auto-applications, so I donโt even think it is good for job-hunting.
When/if i need a new job, Iโll much rather call up previous colleagues and contacts and see what theyโre up to and meet for coffee.
+2 for the "coffee with ex-colleagues"... that's how to really open doors.

Which is funny because it is the way to go - trusting linkedin to do it for you is the long way around. If you donโt have it, you will need to be more active (and that will be more succesful).

If / when I need to looks round for a new role I will deal with it. It's worth the short term pain.
I found my current job by headhunter contacting me in LinkedIn but I'm currently very happy with my position so I maybe could delete it.
Gave up on them before the pandemic lockdown. They are a good indicator of toxic jobs.

No. The insanity of hustle culture there is off-putting to me and offers I got from there were always worse than whatever I could find through real life network.
I have never used it and very likely never will. My dad doomscrolls on there somehow.
My next career change will decide on whether to keep using it. I'm really unsure if it's useful as the job search is just about garbage, but there are so many jobs on there that there might be the one I'm looking for.
Maybe a question to the crowd: are there good, international, job search platforms? As in, I don't have to create an account for each damn country (like monster.com or indeed) and just search for "bricklayer" or "hvac" and find jobs world-wide.

Searching worldwide gives me almost entirely jobs in France. I also didn't see a way to filter for direct listings only (i.e. jobs posted directly by the employer). At least most of the jobs do seem to be direct listings, but annoyingly it is not obvious which ones are posted by an agency, and you have to read the ad carefully looking for phrases like, "Nous recherchons pour notre client...blablabla".
I just had a look, for software engineering I saw jobs for the UK, Germany, Spain
Might not work for every industry.
The French heavy side is because the platform used to be independent (Otta) but then got bought by a French company
It's definitely one to add to my favourites, thanks. It's more of a priority for me to get direct jobs, as I much prefer to avoid agencies (and middlemen in general). I don't mind scrolling through pages of listings as long as at least 50% of them are suitable, which seems to be the case here.
Xing is rather good and getting less german-only I think
For me it's an essential tool that puts food on the table and pays my bills. I understand it's not for everyone but I think some people are too dismissive of it for reasons that don't make much sense to me. It's a great way to connect with prospects and nurture customers. It's an excellent, free, reliable social media platform and, unlike Facebook, it isn't full of ads and pictures of people's food or holiday snapshots. It seems fashionable to shit on it for some people but I think that's more ignorance than anything else.

Lol, It never even occurred to me that could happen on LinkedIn, but actually if you think about all the nose candy loving executives that must be on there, who knows?
