- Prep: hot shower
- Brush: Yaqi Cashmere Synthetic Shaving Brush, Dandelion Green Handle, 24mm
- Razor: Edwin Jagger DE 89L
- Blade: Lord Super Chrome (3)
- Lather: Stirling – Sharp Dressed Man - Shave Soap
- Post Shave: Stirling – Post Shave Balm – Sharp Dressed Man
Man, I've been suffering through all week with the Jagger. Lately I've been taking all the blades I own in bulk and systematically going through them one at a time, using them in each razor I own. Right now I can't tell if the Jagger + Lord Super Chrome is just a bad combo for me, or if it's that I haven't used the Jagger in a while and it's taking me a while to readjust. I could have sworn this blade used to work well for me with this razor, but so far this week it has decidedly not.
Dud blade, perhaps?
Yeah, perhaps. So unfortunately that means that I’ll be using this razor and blade combo for at least one more shave.
Rosy Friday Morning
- Brush: Dogclaration LG 2022 Mystery Brush (B16)
- Razor: Zwilling J. A. Henckels Friodur Unnumbered 8/8" ( hollow ground, stainless steel, round point)
- Lather: Geo.F. Trumper Rose
- Aftershave: Mäurer und Wirtz Tabac Wild Ride
- Fragrance: Mäurer und Wirtz Tabac Man Gravity
I bought this cream during a London trip last spring, and I really enjoy the simple rose scent. The cream is also stupid simple to lather. Great shave with the big Frio 8/8.
Gravity is more earthy and spicy and the transition from the simple rose to it is a nice progression.
Gravity is great, but I struggle to wrap my head around Wild Ride. What do you think of it?
I'm not a fan, it's a bit of a bland fresh fragrance. Definitely not "wild"😅. It's pleasant enough, nothing special
I called it "mild ride" before.
That fits with my experience too 😆

It's a #fougerefriday for Halloween week. Fir, mushroom, and musk combinations along with the smokey fougère make this an excellent shave all around.

- Razor: Parker 510 13/16" Square Point Full Hollow (Straight Shave 368)
Hey, you did over one year's worth of straight razor shaves! 🥳🍻
(And, come to think of it, me too, and I missed the "anniversary"😞)
Yes, I think it was a foregone conclusion for both of us after the first 100 shaves. If you enjoy developing shaving technique, how can you not be a straight razor shaver. In early October, after using a straight everyday for August and September, I realized how awkward it now feels to use a DE or SE.
Anyway, congrats on your anniversary of a year's worth of straight shaving.
Edit: I think the Parker 510 is great. Swedish steel tempered and shaped by Japanese craftsmen. After I get the heavy hitters (Iwasaki, Tanifuji, Yukio) in my collection, I'll try to figure out where the value makers are for Japanese razors. Craftsmanship on these is very high and they shave very well; as you might expect.

- Brush: Stirling 24mm Synthetic
- Blade: Cien Men 2-Blade Cart (3)
- Lather: Australian Private Reserve - Raconteur - Soap
- Post Shave: Bulldog - Original Moisturizer
I bought 3 new-to-me moisturizers at Target. Right off the bat I think 2 of them will work, and one of them (Harry's Balm) is too greasy. I'll still give Harry's a chance, but we'll see.
A year or two ago someone did a deep dive into a bunch of different moisturizers and they determined that Bulldog Original was their favorite. I like it, too! Silky, not greasy. I've tried Bulldog Oil Control in the past and it's much different. I definitely prefer this Original stuff.

AYLM's Verbena Toscana is probably the strongest scented soap I have, and that's a good thing because it smells great.

- Brush: Wald Nimbus Chryselephantine 29mm A1 Fan
- Razor: Tatara Muramasa (setting: 3)
- Blade: Astra Superior Platinum (3)
- Lather: Spearhead Shaving Company - Seaforth! Heather - Soap
- Post Shave: Spearhead Shaving Company - Seaforth! Heather - Aftershave
- Post Shave: Thayers - Rose - Toner
It has been a while since I used Heather and forgot how strong the scent is. It is absolutely wonderful though and I enjoyed being enveloped in it during the shave.
I'm very happy to have the Muramasa. It is the only modern adjustable I have. I think the design is really clever. For me, setting one isn't usable but I can use all the others.
Heather++;
Do you actually use the adjustability, or is it set and forget?
Generally, it is set and forget. I keep it at setting 3 (out of 5). I pretty much do this with all my adjustables. However, in the past when I've done 3-pass shaves, I have used more aggressive settings for the first pass. For me, this really isn't necessary, though.
Same. I used to fiddle around with the settings in the beginning (what have an adjustable and not adjust it, after all?).
Now I just have a favourite setting 🙂
