I want to do this because I am at the end of my rope with these people, and this is the only way I can think of to get back at them. I don’t give a shit if it even works or not. If I were to burn a cross in front of a police station, CIA or FBI building, what would I get in trouble for? Trespassing?

If I were to do it without trespassing but in a viewable area, like on public property or next to a road, what would I be looking at? I know I’ll be caught.

Well yeah, but I was thinking I’d do an upside down cross or something. Maybe that would make it not be a hate crime???

[–] Death_Equity@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If it is a hate crime or not depends on how good your lawyer is. There has to be an argument of intent, unless you say something or express your intent as being a hate crime, it isn't one with a good lawyer. Unfortunately, you have already expressed enough Ideological intent to allow for ambiguity that can be framed as a hate crime. Yes, they will find out about this thread and everything else you have posted and will use it against you.

The more important question is "what does this action accomplish?" The answer in any sound mind is "nothin of value".

A soldier literally lit himself on fire outside the Israeli embassy and streamed it after expressing his motives, it did nothing. You lighting anything on fire outside a police station will be about as impactful as a fart in the wind.

Not up for paying for a lawyer. So glad I posted here before doing anything. At least half smart and half dumb. That’s better than all dumb.

What would it accomplish? Nothing g. It would be hilarious to get back at them, even if they didn’t realize what was happening. I would have a huge laughing attack over it, and those are always fun (I’m a primary psychopath). I just wish I could do SOMETHING.

So, you are not against Christians?

What was the favorite book? Something worth reading? I love to read!

So, you don't want to burn a bible but are you a satanist? Who are you against?

[–] merry_goes_forever@lemm.ee 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I’m not a satanist. I’m just a primary psychopath who loves a good laugh. I am not violent or evil. I’m pissed off at the CIA. Several assets, in particular.

In that case, I would be less confused seeing a burning CCTV camera.

[–] merry_goes_forever@lemm.ee 1 points 1 week ago

Yeah, but I’d still probably get in legal trouble for it. It does send a better message though, doesn’t it?

[–] Ardycake@lemm.ee 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Idk what the burning the cross is trying to accomplish? Idk about what trouble you'll get into, but isn't a burning cross a hate crime?

Are you trying to call them racist or intimidate minority cops?

[–] merry_goes_forever@lemm.ee 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

No. I just thought it would be a funny way to get back at them. There is a reason I posted on here before actually following through with it. I’m not trying to intimidate the cops of fbi/cia. I just think it would be amusing.

If it's on the sidewalk, and someone is standing around with a fire extinguisher in a yellow work jacket while the burning effigy is away from everyone else's property, I wouldn't see a problem. (The cross is the property of OP, so it's not immediately arson.)

Add some orange cones around it connected with yellow "caution" tape for effect.

OSHA would probably be proud, nobody gets hurt and you still send a message. (I am not quite sure what the message would be interpreted as, but still.. it's a message.)

Edit: Also file for a permit where applicable, check your local burn laws and put a steel plate under it so it doesn't burn the sidewalk. You can still probably squeak this in under free speech laws if you go to court. Not to mention, you would confuse the fuck out of the judge.

Edit 2: Shit. Almost forgot. Everyone is going to be filming it so make sure to wear safety goggles so videos don't get demonitized on YouTube.

Jesus Christ that sounds like a lot of work. I’m just a run-of-mill primary psychopath. We don’t usually bother with difficult things and just say, “fuck it”

[–] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm going to assume you'll get in trouble. I don't know what laws will be broken, but I'm sure there's at least one you'll break. Trespassing, damaging property, illegal fire, maybe even a hate crime since it's a religious symbol. Probably others in not even aware of.

[–] merry_goes_forever@lemm.ee 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Thanks. I am beginning to see that it’s a bad idea.

[–] Fingolfinz@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah there are more constructive ways to release your anger from all this daily bullshit but i understand, glad you are having a rethink. Stay in the fight and fight smart

[–] merry_goes_forever@lemm.ee 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I’m not even angry, that’s the thing. I don’t even get angry. I just want to do something funny to get back at them and enjoy a nice laughing attack (I am a primary psychopath). What do you mean by “more constructive ways?” Like, you have better, less dangerous ideas?

[–] Fingolfinz@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Oh okay I had reading comprehension fail while reading your original post I think. Anyway yeah, if you have like specific people in mind, get their email or phone number and get spam shit flowing in, if you know where they work you can go be a difficult customer and that may lead to them being fired, just doing more mischievous things will be more enjoyable I think and keep any heat off you legally

[–] merry_goes_forever@lemm.ee 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Bit difficult because they are at the CIA. They could easily fuck me up again, though I don’t really care if they do.

[–] Fingolfinz@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Yeah, you’re going to be a bit outmatched there, I would recommend against it

[–] MedicPigBabySaver@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Hate crime.... find another option.

[–] merry_goes_forever@lemm.ee 2 points 1 week ago

Yeah I didn’t even think about that. Thanks.

[–] bizarroland@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yes, there are multiple laws to prevent these kinds of things from happening without repercussions throughout the US.

I get that you are frustrated. I am frustrated also. But you'll be far more frustrated in jail than you will be walking safe and free.

[–] merry_goes_forever@lemm.ee 3 points 1 week ago

Thank you for your reply. I am truly a lifestyle actress (and therefor a lifestyle troll) and I think up mostly ridiculous shit. I am trying to figure out a legal way to get back at them, even if only I myself find amusing. I don’t care if they don’t care. It’s just a funny thing to do. I just want to avoid legal trouble. From posting here, I’ve realized from all you good people that I should avoid burning crosses lmao.
