What the graph shows, which is that the US destroyed Japan's economy with Plaza Accord.

It wasn't a trade deal. It was a USD currency devaluation deal. This did affect Japan by reducing the affordability of their exports to US. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plaza_Accord#/media/File:US_Dollar_Index_DXY.webp
