Oh thank fuck he's alive. I kept reading everyone assuming he was dead and started to believe it. Now what happens...?

[–] silence7@slrpnk.net 42 points 1 week ago (1 children)

We get a contempt hearing, and measures like requiring officials to testify, and maybe, eventually, trying to jail some of them for noncompliance

Willful noncompliance

Same. The random comment from the administration that he was alive brought that general assumption, and combined with not allowing anyone to see him, it really started to look like he died in custody and they were trying to hide it as long as possible or cover it up.

Nothing happens now, this administration not only doesn’t care about what people think… they’re actively planning on doing this scenario times 3 million.

Oh thank fuck he’s alive.

I am honestly surprised.

At the White House on Thursday afternoon, when asked by a reporter whether he would move to return Mr. Abrego Garcia to the United States, Mr. Trump said, “Well, I’m not involved.”

“You’ll have to speak to the lawyers, the D.O.J.,” he said, referring to the Justice Department.

OK, the president isn't involved. He said so. Soooo.... start jailing lawyers, your honor.

This is actually huge. Now that this is in the public eye the world will be watching and they can't try to hide him. I know this is only one man out of many and they probably just cleaned him up for the meeting, but I'm just so fucking glad he's alive.

"It's appalling and sad that Senator Van Hollen and the Democrats applauding his trip to El Salvador today are incapable of having any shred of common sense or empathy for their own constituents," Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, said at a briefing on Wednesday afternoon.

As one of his constituents I certainly don't feel like he's lacking empathy. I'm definitely planning on voting for him again.

[–] cheers_queers@lemm.ee 18 points 1 week ago

yeah shes delulu. Not only is this what everyone should be doing, but if i was his constituent i would feel a little safer knowing at least one person is actively trying to uphold my rights if i were in that situation.

In the MAGA mind, voters hate politicians who defend constitutional rights.

[–] casmael@lemm.ee 10 points 1 week ago

Holy shit what a fucking chad he actually pulled it off

[–] Gork@lemm.ee 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What the hell took so long to find him. These people are incompetent.

If you listen to the senator’s interview before he eventually got to interview the captive, El Salvadoran solders stopped him 3km outside of the prison and said they have orders not to let the him in. Senator meet with the VP of El Salvador who admitted that they are paid by trump administration to prison those trump sends. It’s not incompetence

[–] AllHailTheSheep@sh.itjust.works -2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

wait so el salvador isnt getting their money and is just jailing them out of the goodness of their hearts? why wouldn't they just refuse to take us prisoners without immediate payment?

no surprising tho, trump isn't exactly known for paying his bills

[–] HootinNHollerin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I said that they are being paid so i don’t know why you’re saying the opposite

you're right that's my bad. reading to fast after a long day. apologies

[–] _wizard@lemmy.world -1 points 1 week ago

Wait, is payment actually happening or did the VP count his chickens early?

[–] CoolSouthpaw@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Heh. President van Hollen certainly has a nice ring to it, don't you think? 👍
