Got to talk to my 2 best friends I haven't seen in 12 years on video chat.

It's a long story, but man I feel so fucking happy right now!

Goodnight all ❤️

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 points 6 days ago

this is wonderful 🥲🥲🥲

[–] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 3 points 6 days ago

Wholesome as!

Goodnight and build on that happiness tomorrow.

[–] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 8 points 6 days ago

Espresso Martini time, woooooo!! Home made, possibly a little too strong, bring it on!

[–] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 7 points 6 days ago

eee found the water leak.

Wasn't me but the neighbour saw it thank fuck it wasn't under the slab.

[–] bacon@aussie.zone 5 points 6 days ago (2 children)

[–] bacon@aussie.zone 1 points 6 days ago

We hope they don’t mind he is sparkly clean

[–] TheWitchofThornbury@aussie.zone 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Full immersion baptism is a thing. Mostly for adults converting. Refer St John the Baptist. Rinse is the same only different. Refer vegetables and washing machines. Then there's the tricky question of the mikveh.

[–] bacon@aussie.zone 1 points 6 days ago

Well, we won’t tell them about the process. They should be quite happy about the result!

[–] Catfish@aussie.zone 4 points 6 days ago (3 children)

Had 'his' first mate over. Vomit before 9. Yeah, cheers thanks a lot.

[–] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Fucking lightweights.

But seriously, that's very poor form and childish.

Hope they're ashamed.

[–] Duenan@aussie.zone 4 points 6 days ago

Charming, make them clean it up.

I thought to just download my OneDrive files onto my computer, back them up and unlink my pc so it couldn’t fill that storage back up again. Well downloading my stuff isn’t working. They download as zip files that only contain error and .txt.

I’m also now being told I can’t send or receive emails because I’m over storage and have to pay for more - recurring subscription of course.

It’s so very convenient that they force your files onto their cloud (removing them from your computer) and then somehow the process of getting them back is obstructive. Really slimy.

I may end up having to pay to get to the task later but this is making me seriously reconsider Windows.

Microsoft prey on fear uncertainty and doubt. Also on compatibility between organisations. The only reason I don’t walk for Linux is 1. I want to make sure I have everything first and 2. because I’m not confident of being able to reliably make everything work as I need it to.

[–] SituationCake@aussie.zone 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Not sure what your arrangement is, but in windows with one drive, in explorer you can select the files and folders you want, right click, and select ‘always keep on this device”. This means you have a local copy in addition to the onedrive copy.

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 1 points 6 days ago

Thanks, I’ll give that a go

[–] kudra@aus.social 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

@melbaboutown @YarraByte in the process of DeGoogling and it's similar. Though so far I'm only partway through Photos. It was always the intention to bait and switch and capture financially once the difficulty of leaving became extreme. I was always aware of Facebook which seemed blatant to me: Google and M$ actually more subtle.

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 1 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

Agreed… We are the product. But Meta are now doing things I never could have imagined when I signed up. They scraped all of the user data and pictures for AI and Australian users didn’t get to opt out.

Agreed about Microsoft being more subtle. It kind of crept up on me.

Oh man… I want to de google but I’m absolutely drowning at the moment and barely managing life admin let alone a mammoth task like that.

I still have to go through my Facebook to make sure I get everything before I deactivate or delete with the under 16 ban (because I’m not giving Meta or other platforms my id). And because the download doesn’t work I have to do it manually.

My respect goes out to people who are able to stay on top of all this

[–] kudra@aus.social 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

@melbaboutown I am glad I don't have to think about FB as have never given them my data. I need to anonymise on several services to at least try and thwart the AI feeding frenzy, though I'm rarely active anywhere except on Fedi these days. But I need to move Gmail as well. It's more than many people are even equipped to try, sadly.

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Yeah I regret. And it’s probably more than I’ll ever be able to attempt.

Right now I just need to get my stuff backed up to physical media in time and make sure I can continue to use my main email.

[–] kudra@aus.social 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

@melbaboutown yeah when you realise "the cloud" is just other people's computers and "free" SM & other lockin has always been designed from the outset to bait & switch and basically enslave you it makes you realise the real costs of not being free and open. I remember when I genuinely believed Google was a force for good.

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 1 points 6 days ago

Yeah. I wish there had been an alternative way back then. I wasn’t in circles to find out about the fediverse.

I quite liked the self hosted forums but people you knew/mainstream moved to other social media and you had to be there to stay in touch or have opportunities to attend community events. And when you leave they don’t. Massive social trap.

[–] Duenan@aussie.zone 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

What was the size of the zip file that you downloaded?

Try downloading a smaller directory or file and see if you can open it.

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I made repeated attempts so - 69kb, then 1.2kb. Probably too large.

Some other guy was complaining about this so I began manually downloading - and then saw that I could ctrl-a and copy the contents of the OneDrive folder to paste it into a new folder. Once I think I have everything I’m unlinking.

[–] Duenan@aussie.zone 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Ok, not sure how you’re doing it but if you’re able to get your files back that way then that’s fine.

If using the zip method you need to use smaller sizes like maybe 1gig but test it out first and make sure it works.

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 2 points 6 days ago

Cheers, thanks :)

Halfway through Animal Kingdom S2 so far. Idk, it's not terrible by far but it's not really gripping my attention much either, I fast forward through all the alpha male stuff. I like Shawn Hatosy though and everyone says he does great in all 5 seasons so I guess I'll keep going

E: also I'm so over this heat, it's driving me mad. Literally the only silver lining being that there's less acclimatisation needed for my upcoming trip.

E2: okay wow that scene of Pope and the bible study woman was pretty unexpectedly hot though

Today is a feast day so to honour my culture , the past, the Seagoons and myself I am cooking a feast of luscious cheeses and crackers, good drinks, a salad, and chicken cooked with nutmeg , parsley and parmesan cheese in a tomato sauce served with egg fettucini. Peaches and apricots for desert.

I am just about to put my make up on. 🙂

[–] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 4 points 6 days ago

Enjoy your celebrations!! That all sounds amazing!

Met the new neighbours who are moving in soon. 4 cars and 12 people got out lol. Guessing they'll be loud going by them leaving their music blaring from their cars as they were parked and yelling over it to talk to each other. It's a very quiet court.

I don't mind at all as my little studio down here can go LOUDER I hope they like poorly made drum and bass.

They seem nice though and it's good to see the place finally getting used after 6 months vacant.

I planned a friend outing for this evening and honestly I don’t know why I bother. I’ve been getting slow responses during planning, slower than usual, feels like I’m forcing these people to hang out with me. They can say no? Maybe I’m reading too much into this but it’s consistent with other things that have happened recently which make it feel like we’re distancing. Don’t say I didn’t try if these friends aren’t in my life in future. I don’t even want to go anymore.

Oh man, I unleashed on the broom rider (MIL) last night. An awkward start to the long weekend.

[–] LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So many people don't stand up to their MILs/FILs. As a kid, my mum always used to complain to my sister and I about things her MIL would say or do, and my dad would either stick up for his mum, or pretend that nothing was wrong.

Biblically speaking, today's the day they all ate chocolate bunnies right?

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 9 points 1 week ago

Real bunnies today, chocolate ones tomorrow.

It's Friday, I've been helldiving with mates, had a few whiskeys, and it's Easter with the family & egg hunt with the kids shortly. Things could be much worse than this.

Letting myself just relax and have some fun today.

I have this whole issue with hyper independence, where I don't let myself relax and always need to be productive.

Well for today, fuck that. No house cleaning, no learning IT stuff. Just video games, cat cuddles and music.

[–] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 9 points 1 week ago (2 children)

One thing I love about country's towns is how people still dress up for lunch. Young lasses in their new dresses, mum and dad all ironed, trailed by awkward boys in their collard shirt and best shorts. It's nice
