SOTD 2023 11 06

A new week starts with a good shave. I’m using a vintage razor with some sentimental value this week.

Mammoth Monday

  • Brush: Zenith r/Wetshaving exclusive MOAR BOAR (31 mm × 57 mm bleached boar)
  • Razor: Thiers Issard Le Dandy
  • Lather: House of Mammoth/Noble Otter/Declaration Grooming Cerberus
  • Aftershave: House of Mammoth/Noble Otter/Declaration Grooming Cerberus liniment
  • Fragrance: Spearhead Shaving Company Seaforth! Black Watch

First Mammoth Monday for me since before TabOktoberfest.

Warm and fruity Cerberus is a wonderful scent and I long regretted not getting the splash and edt, but apparently a new batch is being made these days. Second chances ++;

I'm in a Black Watch mind set the days it seems because it seems to pair well with so many scents.

I'm continuing through my BaM greatest hits. A thoroughly enjoyable morning shave.

I know. My photos are "back in black". I promise, the one later today will not be.

I'm enjoying the "Back in Black" episodes 🙂

LGC is still on my to-try list, how do you like it?

[–] whosgotthepudding@sub.wetshaving.social 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

For real. They're so clean and make the color everywhere else just pop.

I admit I'm playing with the black tones (warm and cool) to help with this.

It's a great soap, one I will definitely consider restocking once it's gone. I can send you some, if you want to try.

Oh, that's a very kind offer! Let me check Mount Smushmore (my sample pile) tonight to make sure I don't already inadvertantly have some. If not, I'll take you up on your kind offer, thanks!

Just one question: do you choose your soap in function of the color of your scales, or the razor in function of your soap tub?

[–] gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

:-)

I chose the soap for this morning and then realized that I had time to make a photo. I chose the brush and razor because I did not want to spend time fretting over color coordination.

Anyways, good choice!

I felt tired today, so no straight for me. Shaving felt easy, but I still got a few weapers.

Have a good night!

Variété de Fougère Gothique, Classique et Gaélique

  • Brush: Zenith r/Wetshaving exclusive MOAR BOAR (31 mm × 57 mm bleached boar)
  • Razor: Thiers Issard Le Dandy
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann Fougère Gothique
  • Aftershave: Barrister and Mann Fougère Classique
  • Fragrance: Spearhead Shaving Company Seaforth! Heather

The sense of smell is a funny thing, because when I smelled Fougère Gothique today, I mostly got the citrus of the bergamot, which I had never before had thought of as an important note of FG.

Fougère Classique was as stanky and delicious as I remembered it, and well rounded, almost sweet Heather is a serene ending for a turbulent scent progression.

The hardware was as enjoyable as the fragrances in this wonderful evening shave.

I love Fougere Classique. I've only every smelled it in bar soap form, but MmmmmmmMMMM.

  • Brush: Maggard 24mm 2 Band Badger
  • Razor: Personna BBS-0
  • Blade: Personna Lab Blue (5)
  • Lather: Central Texas Soaps - Cherry Pipe - Soap
  • Post Shave: Brut - Splash On
  • Post Shave: Goodfellow & Co. - Face Lotion - Kelp & Sea Mineral
  • Fragrance: House of Mammoth - Santa Noir - EdP

Another great shave from this razor. I think the flat area on the top cap presents some drag with soaps that don't have excellent secondary slickness. Still, it's possible to ride the safety bar a bit to get around it. It has a pretty narrow shaving window though, being a relatively mild razor, so some skill goes a long way.

Day 2 with this Goodfellow lotion. I used a teeny tiny bit, and it was plenty.

This series of yours makes me itch to open my still packaged mint bbs-0 😅

  • Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts with Declaration Grooming B10
  • Razor: Gillette NEW SC
  • Blade: Astra Superior Platinum (2)
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann - Amazelnut - Soap
  • Post Shave: Barrister and Mann - Leviathan - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Thayers - Lemon - Toner

Great evening shave. I like Amazelnut but a Leviathan finish takes it to another level. The NEW SC performed perfectly as always. DE razors don't get much better than this.

This is my favorite SOTD photo. I made it in July during Lather Games. Today's version is cropped and shaded a little differently but it's the same photo. I spent four days to get this photo. In July, in Maryland, the mosquito is the apex predator. Neither the squirrels nor I wanted to be at ground level.

The squirrel is real. The pile of nuts she is eating was taken out with PhotoShop.

How do I know this is a female squirrel? Well, I've been feeding squirrels and getting to know their personalities since January of this year. This little lady has been a regular since the spring. She's a real character.
