MODERATORS

As you may know, lemmy.world is the largest lemmy instance, and as a result hosts most of the communities on the threadiverse.

Do you guys think we should move to another instance? programming.dev is one I have in mind.

Yes. LW is big enough.

Maybe? What is the motivation to move?

LW hosts most of the communities and people in the lemmyverse. they also suffer from slowdowns and delays, and have a some moderation issues.

I’m not intentionally trying to argue just to argue, but what instance isn’t going to have moderation issues? I haven’t seen enough performance issues here to have noticed any trends. Mods themselves are very frequently asshats anywhere you go. It’s the nature of a job that offers power but no other compensation.

Is there something specific that has prompted this move? Some event I missed?

I like the clear Terms of Service here and the accessible admin team. I’ve been part of other servers that were clearly taking a much less professional approach.

My only mark against LW is that they didn’t want to block corporate instances, not that those have been a problem at all.

Well, if there's a transphobic or misogynist comment somewhere, its usually from LW.
Some servers, like beehaw, block LW.

the entire point of lemmy is decentralization…

[–] PlasticExistence@lemmy.world -3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

That’s not the discussion we’re having…

No, it’s not. The discussion is what is the motivation for the move, not that it’s technically possible to move.

[–] TriflingToad@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 days ago

the motivation for the move is for better decentralization.

the point of lemmy is decentralization, not that it’s possible…
that is the main motivation for the move…
are you just trolling or what?

No, you’re just unable to follow context.

got it, you’re trying to troll….
weak sauce, bud

Should every community move away from lemmy.world? He's asking what the motivation was for this specific community to move. If the answer is to increase decentralization that's fine, but he was asking the mod for their opinion.

[–] xor@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

why do you think the mod wrote this?

As you may know, lemmy.world is the largest lemmy instance, and as a result hosts most of the communities on the threadiverse.

[–] Jtee@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Because it is a fact. It doesn't say "should we move to another instance to increase decentralization since lemmy.world hosts most of the communities..?" So OPs comment is a fair question to ask

It's called discussion

[–] aleq@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago

If you want. Not having everything on lemmy.world is nice I suppose, but it also doesn't really change anything.

Great idea and choice. Do it.
