I've been diagnosed about 8 years ago and while I'd say I'm highly functional I don't want to go on vyvanse again because the side effects are so strong. Anyone have any advice or want to share their experiences?

There are many more meds to try than just Vyvanse. If you have a good psychiatrist, they'll likely run you through Concerta, then Adderall, then Dexedrine, etc.

There are stimulants and non-stimulants. I personally took Concerta for a really long time, and it destroyed my personality and delayed my social learning by years. I then went cold turkey on it, and after 3 years, found that I was non-functional.

I've been on Adderall for about a year now, very few side effects (for me) and recently bumped my dosage from 10 to 15. Drugs affect different people differently, so you really just have to try them out.

I'm on desvenlafaxine, an antidepressant. It helps with the ADHD "walk through a doorway and wtf was I wanting to do again" problems I have. I'm also a generally functional person with ADHD. Graduated with a degree and all but just rather spacey and forgetful.

Also turns out I've been massively depressed for years so that also cleared up. I haven't taken Vyvanse, but back when I was taking just Ritalin I'd still get intense negative moods and was generally snappier. If taken as needed now it's not so bad.

Overall: 10/10, husband recommends.

(He pledged that he'll fund my medications if I ever had trouble buying them since I've done a lot better since going on them. Happy wife, happy life and all)

If you feel comfortable answering: what were your side effects?

Interrupted sleep, insane horniness, lack of appetite, anxiety and feeling on the edge constantly.

Sounds like hell, man. I hope that you find another medication that doesn't mess with you like that!

It really depends on how good your psychiatrist is. If they have a lot of knowledge on how the meds work and know the chemistry of why the dexamphetamines aren’t for you, they can absolutely steer you to a better solution. You should mention that vyvanse was a bad experience when you see your provider and give details of why. Good luck!

I haven't tried any others but whenever I'm on it shit definitely works. However after a few months it stops working and the impact to my sleep and general anxiety makes me want to go off it again.

It is very, very likely that there is a better option for you. Just to name one: You could get methylphenidate (or even Vyvanse again) and use it only as needed. A lot can get done in 10 or 20 "power-days" per year, even when you just drag along for the rest of it.

Yeah I am leaning towards that.
