I think Nicotine has a stimulant effect, so there is that. Other than that, yea, the marketing devils get to them.

The marketing to get the first puff, then the nicotine to keep you hooked.

Because drugs make you feel good?

If smoking isn't cool anymore then I don't want to live in this world.

[–] mriormro@lemm.ee 6 points 6 days ago (1 children)

It hasn't been cool for over 30 years.

[–] frostysauce@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago (2 children)

It was definitely cool in the nineties. Maybe you just weren't?

I was a child in the 90's but I specifically remember me and my friends being grossed out by them then.

None of my friends as I grew up found them to be cool either since, again, they smelled like shit and were pretty gross.

Cheers on your weird, displaced ego though.

I was a child in the 90's, I found it cool. Hell, I still find the "lighting up one last bent cigarette before going out in a blaze of glory" or the "smoking melodramatically in the rain" scenes in old movies to be cool tbh. Marketing, like nicotine, is a hell of a drug.

It's like Bender said in Futurama (in 2003 no less):

Viewers of the world, do smoking and drinking on TV really make me cool? Of course they do! How about committing crimes and violence? Again, the answer is yes. But do we really want our kids exposed to that kind of trash on TV? I say, absolutely not!

Cheers to your moral superiority tho.

OP discovers addiction. Doesn't realise he probably has one himself.

I picked up a vape off the street a few days ago to disassemble and see how they work. I definitely get that nicotine craving they are talking about. The slightest whiff of that things odor is enough to make you curious to more. Ive had to put it in a jar to avoid the sweet smell

Because dying from smoking weed isn't available in all places..........
