Welcome to the largest gaming community on Lemmy! Discussion for all kinds of games. Video games, tabletop games, card games etc.

Rules

1. Submissions have to be related to games

Video games, tabletop, or otherwise. Posts not related to games will be deleted.

This community is focused on games, of all kinds. Any news item or discussion should be related to gaming in some way.

2. No bigotry or harassment, be civil

No bigotry, hardline stance. Try not to get too heated when entering into a discussion or debate.

We are here to talk and discuss about one of our passions, not fight or be exposed to hate. Posts or responses that are hateful will be deleted to keep the atmosphere good. If repeatedly violated, not only will the comment be deleted but a ban will be handed out as well. We judge each case individually.

3. No excessive self-promotion

Try to keep it to 10% self-promotion / 90% other stuff in your post history.

This is to prevent people from posting for the sole purpose of promoting their own website or social media account.

4. Stay on-topic; no memes, funny videos, giveaways, reposts, or low-effort posts

This community is mostly for discussion and news. Remember to search for the thing you're submitting before posting to see if it's already been posted.

We want to keep the quality of posts high. Therefore, memes, funny videos, low-effort posts and reposts are not allowed. We prohibit giveaways because we cannot be sure that the person holding the giveaway will actually do what they promise.

5. Mark Spoilers and NSFW

Make sure to mark your stuff or it may be removed.

No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.

6. No linking to piracy

Don't share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine.

We don't want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

I had it suddenly appear in my top sellers on Steam after previously being removed. Hopefully this means Sony can bring back their games for other countries?

Now remove denuvo and I'm going to buy it

This is a fantasy. Hell freezes before DRM gets removed from AAA games not on GOG.

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Doesn't DRM often get removed after a game wanes in popularity as it's no longer worth the price to keep up the Denuvo license?

[–] DeathsEmbrace@lemm.ee 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Yeah thats why they sometimes move to GOG. You cant have DRM on GOG games.

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

But a game doesn't have to be on GOG to not have DRM.

It’s a guarantee that GOG games dont have DRM. Its not an all for one spot just the biggest consistency.

So not exactly a hell freezing over situation, more of a blue moon?

[–] stardust@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 days ago

These days companies have started removing them after a year, since denuvo went to subscription route over a one time fee.

Most games I've wanted that launch with Denovu end up removing the DRM 6 months to a year after launch.

It still infects the vast majority of Sega and Ubisoft titles, despite their age.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 2 points 4 days ago

Idk about Sega, but yeah. Ubisoft sucks with this. But they suck for a lot of other things, too. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Denuvo specifically costs money as it's some kind of subscription so from what I understand most games will drop denuvo one day or another the moment it costs more than the cost of piracy, which is probably once the wave of initial sales has passed.

[–] Cris16228 1 points 4 days ago

One can only dream! Hopefully the hell freezes so they remove Denuvo :(

[–] SolidShake@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

Depends who unlocked it. Was it steam, Sony or devs?

[–] bimbimboy@lemm.ee 7 points 4 days ago

That's weird. Is there any official announcement? My only fear is that people purchase the game and then get locked out of it for some reason.

[–] rickyrigatoni@lemm.ee 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Remember when helldivers did this then Sony made them re-implement the region lock, making people unable to play the game they bought?

Please if you live on the other side of the wall just wait for empress, if she even still alive, to do her thing or for denuvo to be removed.

I think empress retired bro.

Last thing I heard she was doing self harm to herself allegedly and shut her telegram server down
