QoL Feature Request - Have a way to avoid being auto subscribed to communities on signup (piefed.social)

I'm yet another lemm.ee refugee looking for a new home. I signed up to piefed.social, and in the process was required to select at least three interests. That seems to have been used to sign me up to 58 separate communities, none of which I actually wanted to be signed up to! I can see how it can be a good way to fill new users' feeds and give them a starting point, but I'd really like to see an option to say "Don't add me to anything, I'll handle it from here". Unsubscribing from all of those was painful.

You're not the first person who got bitten by this.

I've added a 'skip' link to the top of https://piefed.social/auth/choose_topics and a 'leave all communities' button at the bottom of https://piefed.social/communities

Thanks for the quick work! The 'leave all communities' button, in conjunction with the export and import of settings, means I can edit me subscriptions in vim if I want to, which is great. Having an option on the import to replace my subscriptions, rather than add to them, would be the cherry on the cake.

For what it's worth, when I signed up to piefed.ca it asked me to pick 3 interests and there were only 2 interests to even choose. I just clicked past the screen without picking anything, and it seemed to accept that as an answer. So maybe it's already working fine, and the text just needs to be updated to be more optional-sounding?

That's interesting. If the text had made it clear it was optional I definitely would have skipped it. Hopefully that will be easy to fix.

This is exactly why I almost never use my piefed account, I was subscribed to a bunch of communities and I do not feel like unsubscribing to them all.

Actually viewing that page on the desktop (I have been browsing on my iPhone via safari) leaving individual communities was much easier than mobile. Got the list trimmed, thank you.
