Posts and discussion about comics (and, sometimes, associated media) by the artist centurii-chan.

They have a history of edge-posting - nothing that the current mod considers outright racist, sexist, or otherwise hateful, but problematic enough that you may want to look elsewhere for horny comics.

I feel there's been some very sus behavior coming from centuriichan and I wonder what role this sublemmy plays in unintentionally normalizing racist rhetoric

Unfortunately it's a reddit comment but it compiles a very good list of very questionable trends in their comics

There's also this one making light of colonial r*pe and drug exploitation:

I personally don't see much difference between this covert form of racist and colonial normalization via cutesy anime characters and pebbletoss' more overt palpable webcomic form of racism (might even argue that this is worse since it has enough plausible deniability)

Curious to hear your opinions

Yes, centurii is very much 4chan "edgy humor". I didn't think this was a secret, or a recent development.

Now personally I don't mind a bit of edgy humor with the understanding that it's humor value comes from breaking the norms of common decency. It does not mean those norms should be broken outside of the joke. Sadly, we can't trust everyone to get the joke, as we see in your screenshot of the idiot railing against "race mixing" (also, that joke isn't very funny imo).

I know Lemmy is generally a bit more sensitive to this, so it was surprising to me that centurii gets posted so much. I'm not worried that it will normalize racist rhetoric, because most users here will either get the joke or think it's not funny because of the racism. You have to be a special kind of stupid to miss the joke and like the comic for the racism.

The risk is that posting edgy jokes attracts the especially stupid people, which is why I'd only do it in communities that are generally super anti-racist. Any special stupids can't help but get baited into revealing themselves in such communities, which makes them an easy ban.

It is concerning, I liked their older drawings.

I hope they don't end up like the Dilbert guy.

"The pass" is like "you're allowed to use this word [to refer to me, in the understanding that you're not using it as a slur]"

Using it as a slur, no matter who "gave you the pass" is what's wrong with this.

The first black person to say the N word

There's some stuff in OP's link that's new and concerning to me, and some stuff that sounds like bad faith interpretation.

I appreciate and am reading everyone's comments on this while I figure out what to do next for the comm.

The artist does almost everything on paid commission. Subscribers submit requests and generally the highest bidder gets their idea drawn.

They've seriously captured a slice of the incel market, though at a certain point there's choices made. But I do believe they're pulling in serious dollars for this content.

Couldn't they just... refuse to draw racist shit tho? I don't think 'someone paid me to do it' is a valid excuse.

Of course they could and of course it isn't. It isn't a justification so much as the mechanism that fuels it. It is just how markets work. They're meeting a demand in the market, and now they make a living off of it.

Though to be honest I don't follow the artist that closely and it sounds like they're far more into it than just their art conveys. I subscribed to them way back in I think 2020 before they took the porn pipeline.

I mean even if they get offered loads to make racist dogwhistles they still can choose not to draw them - plus I doubt somebody pays her to keep wanting to say the n-word on xitter

Personally, looks like edgelord stuff and probably tongue in cheek. The paladin one in particular is funny because they have an ability that detects particular races of creatures, hence the glowing eyes.

Referencing something doesn't mean you approve of it

I mean whatever helps you goon at night but if racists were cheering me on I'd reevaluate my priorities..

Whew man. Thanks for that N word pass.
