"Affordability was a key focus of Mamdani's policy platform and messaging, with the Democratic state assemblymember calling for an immediate rent freeze for all of the city's rent-stabilized tenants, the creation of a network of city-owned grocery stores focused not on profits but on "keeping prices low," and free childcare.

Mamdani proposed funding those and other priorities with a higher tax rate on corporations and city residents earning more than $1 million per year—fueling the backlash his campaign faced from the ultra-wealthy."

Almost as if voters are tired of the entrenched democrat party and want fresh ideas.

Yup. Primaries are how we do something about it. You know how many times I voted for someone in the primary other than Schumer in the last 28 years?

Democratic primaries see less than 15% turnout in congressional elections, yet people wonder why nothing changes. Do you know who always shows up? Retirees, and they typically love the incumbent centrist.

They rig it by scheduling primaries and especially caucuses so that young people can't attend as easily as retirees.

I highly doubt 85% of registered voters miss the election because of scheduling conflicts. You can sign up for mail-in ballots if you have an irregular schedule. Most people vote once every four years, if at all. We should be voting twice every two years for federal elections alone.

Edit: I forgot .ml is anti-voting. What a bunch of finger-pointing losers. Lol

I'm not saying that's what accounts for an 85% drop. It's just one reason you get more retirees than even the general election that show up.

Oh, for sure. They also just love to support the conservative Democrats so their Medicare/pensions/retirement accounts stay cushy.

I'm just here to say, fuck the ultra wealthy.

No Mo' Status Quomo

The establishment honestly really dropped the ball TBH. Like, if Cuomo was the best they could do, then it's kinda obvious why.

Some of Mamdani's policies I take issue with. Rent freezes are a really janky solution as opposed to land taxes, and free public transport is not really the answer to New York's transit problems. I'm Australian so I don't know enough about the political feasibility of the alternatives though.

I think that's great and all but say you're making over 1 million a year, you're obviously gonna dip out the city right? Which would give the city less funding for whatever it is they need.

Someone more educated than me feel free to chime in.
