How the fuck does max do it. Throughout the weekend, both the McLarens and the Ferraris looked faster and still the madlad delivers a perfect lap to snatch pole

Never would've guessed that the year he's (probably) NOT winning the championship is the year he shows just how insanely talented he is as a driver. I think this is the third time this year he's snatched pole with a perfect lap.

Thank god RBR is shitting the bed because Max looks like he's ready to repeat 2023. No disrespect towards Max but watching GPs to see who comes second isn't all that exciting.

yeah he is a beast.

0.5 second covering the top 16th is crazy

yeah that's the thing when you realise the difference between all of them, they are all top drivers.

Oof the moment Bearman does a stupid red flag pit lane crash, he does a mega Q1 lap

[–] Microw@piefed.zip 10 points 2 months ago

Max burying his possibilities of getting out that RB contract

Max is something special..

[–] cyrano@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 months ago

simply lovely ;)

Verstappen too good, what a great lap

[–] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I feel bad for Colapinto but he's not fast enough or has a junior career good enough to afford all these mistakes and crashes.

I'd think one needs a half decent car to be able to show speed. Or do the comparison with his peer in the team. For the former he showed something with Williams. For the latter, he is not far from Gasly, with a decade less experience. But yes clearly a rookie and a lot to learn

Max is an absolute wizard, and it's times like these that he really shows it. Where did that even come from?? Fantastic driving.

[–] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 3 points 2 months ago

I feel like his pole lap in Suzuka earlier this year was even crazier but yeah sometimes he just decides to put his foot down and remind the world that there are levels to this.

Uh oh Hamilton.. why did Ferrari do this?

[–] Worx@lemmynsfw.com 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Never mind, Ferrari master plan

[–] lazycouchpotato@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

The heads of Ferrari strategy team would've been on the chopping block if Hamilton would've gone out in Q1 at his home race.

[–] lazycouchpotato@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That's more like it, Ferrari. Keep it up for Q3.

[–] cyrano@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 months ago

yeah too bad. they did a great Q2

[–] cyrano@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 months ago

The Ferrari did well in Q2 and did not manage to keep the pace in Q3. tomorrow is going to be good. Max is impressive.

[–] lazycouchpotato@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Verstappen, damn. Another solid quali.

[–] ninth_plane@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I had an opportunity to watch with the F1TV commentary this time (the broadcasting rights here are for a Sky-based company), and I have to say it was refreshing for it not to be a complete Norris-fest, while still acknowledging it's a special race for him. DC's reaction to Max's lap was fantastic.

That hasn't taken penalties into account.

[–] cyrano@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 months ago

yeah just the raw q3 result

Saved a set of tires. Good choice.

Aston are super inconsistent with strategy, imo. They do some weird stuff sometimes but they also pull off some great calls on occasion.
