I don't want to be forced to drive places by stupid car centric public space design. The freedom to walk everywhere is my god given right.

[–] trebor8201@lemmy.world 32 points 1 year ago

"God given right." It's weird that he thinks the DMV is God.

"Dick", the censored word is "Dick", kids.

This is not US cable TV. Let's keep it that way.

[–] ReadyUser31@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Hilarious that dick was censored but not the fuck in fuck cars.

[–] jerkface@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It was to prevent brigading, not to censor obscenity.

[–] nei7jc@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Oh my gosh, I am used to sharing other ways, it's a habit. It's still kinda funny tho.

[–] nei7jc@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Haha sorry, used to it.

[–] xigoi@lemmy.sdf.org 25 points 1 year ago

It's interesting that God only decided to give people this right after they had lived on the Earth for millions of years.

[–] Stinkywinks@lemmy.world 21 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Are cars in the bible? Has this guy heard of a driver's license? Obviously isn't a right at all. Fuck cars! Electric rail everywhere!

[–] CaptPretentious@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

He's using the new modem Bible. It's the, 'My God given right!' Edition.

So for example Genesis. Exodus. Leviticus. and Numbers... Just not applicable in today's world...

So instead replaced with Ford, Chevy, Buick, and Cadillac.

Then it really starts to pop off later were they replaced Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John with Remington, Winchester, Smith and Wesson.

... Fucken eh, I was just taking the piss, I had not expected I managed to somewhat guess it right...

Christians reject Jesus... How do you call yourselves Christians still!?! How!?

[–] nei7jc@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I'm not religious or anything, but they should add some product placement to the Bible.

"Today's church service is brought to my Dunkin'"

You're far more patient than I ever could be. Good one you. It's conversations like these that change people's minds. If not OC, than those less stubborn who read the interaction.

[–] nei7jc@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

Yes this is my own post. Yes, I'm not very humble. But thanks for your compliment.

Being nice and understanding had proven to help change minds, rather than forcing them to get all defensive and everything.

Apparently he lives far away from everything, so not driving for him is not a realistic option. He did say on his own as well, that he shouldn't be in the community.

[–] cynar@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Don't bother trying to change their minds, you won't do it. It's generally done in bad faith.

Instead, aim to make other readers think. An uncontested comment is seen as supported by the larger community. Just contesting it makes a big difference. If you can educate, at the same time, all the better.

The right has been using this trick for years. It makes their opinion seem disproportionately supported.

[–] glue_snorter@lemmy.sdfeu.org 13 points 1 year ago

It's not a right, it's a privilege that is granted to the competent and is taxed.

"I'm all about freedom! It's my god given right "

Anyways here's how I'm going to use the government to force others to build and maintain a billion parking spaces they don't want or need

I guarantee this guy hates congestion as well

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

Driving is a privilege not a right. How did we get here? Who is fucken producing these igits and letting them wander away from the organ harvesting factory?

[–] ted@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I wish people from All didn't engage with fuck cars. I don't hang out in a community called "fuck cars" just to have talking heads from shit-town-fediverse.net in every comment section, who have never thought critically about car-dependency, say, "AtCHUalLY cars are pretty useful!!1!"

[–] HardlightCereal@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I think we need more active moderation

[–] HardlightCereal@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Banning cars altogether is achievable and it's political. Everything's political.

[–] vlad76@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I browse All and sometimes see content from this community and I'm not completely on board with all of you....

But, that was a very good response. You've acted like and adult. It's very rare on the internet.

[–] nei7jc@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The non adult acting like an adult? I mean thanks but I'm 15 lol.

[–] vlad76@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 year ago

There are a lot of 30 year olds that act 12.

[–] Nevoic@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Agree on majority of the post, except for "make the choices you feel are right". Hard disagree on this normatively. If you're saying it descriptively, sure, but it's essentially tautological at that point.

We shouldn't advocate that people just act in whatever way feels correct to them. Sociopaths feel like it's okay to do things that are not okay. So do bigots, racists, speciesists, sexists, etc.

We should instead do what you're doing with the majority of your post, advocate for correct positions and then come to a rational conclusion with the people we are talking to. Giving them a get out of jail free card, permitting them to do literally anything, is unnecessary.

[–] nei7jc@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Invoking guilt, yes I'm saying it descriptively. I put it at the end as a "I'll let you make the right choice". Thanks for pointing it out, though.

The comment you're replying to sounds like it might be sarcastic, but not sure without being able to hear the tone.

[–] tdawg@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

On one hand I hear you. On the other hand I've heard these exact words come out of "libertarian" mouths before

[–] nei7jc@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Not too sure, I'm going to assume it's serious unless there's a tone indicator. Did I get the community values right or something?
