All I know about north korea is that a student from my university went there, was arrested for stealing a poster, and was never seen alive again. But I suppose that's a lie, the people who went with him must have lied to the media, or maybe every media agency that covered it lied. Surely that's more believable

This is an embarrassing level of stupid. NK government literally killed a tourist for trying to take a poster. If NK citizens say anything except that everything there is rainbows and unicorns, they'll be killed or sent to work camps. Does "western" AKA democratic, non-despotic media make a big deal out of everything bad that NK does? Yeah, they do. Does NK actually do all of those things? Oh shit, yeah to that one, too.
