In the cinematic family tree of laconic-but-deadly avengers, Clean (2021) is a redheaded stepchild—a film that knows exactly what it’s channeling and doesn’t pretend otherwise. It’s drenched in the psychic fallout of post-‘Nam vengeance fantasies and post-9/11 urban despair. Think of it as a spiritual cousin to You Were Never Really Here or Drive, but stripped of art-house affectation and dipped in the rust-colored grime of a dying city.
