The franchise takes place in a shared universe in which humans co-exist with creatures known as Pokémon, a large variety of species endowed with special powers. The franchise's primary target audience is children aged 5 to 12, but it is known to attract people of all ages.

Hey, Lemmy!

I’m a somewhat experienced TTRPG designer and my latest project is an RPG based on the first generation of Pokémon games.

My focus was on ease-of-play and simple prep. Many of the other Pokémon RPGs out there seemed to involve a lot of overhead—especially for the GM. I prefer a more improv-heavy game, and having to do a lot of prep makes that basically impossible.

Sticking to gen 1 made it so I could keep the scope small enough to allow for simple encounter tables, pre-prepared Pokémon sheets for every Pokémon, and a simple set-up for every Pokémon controlled by the GM.

The game is designed to be played with one GM and two or three players, and every aspect of the original games has been changed where needed to accommodate this.

I don't know how much interest there is for this kind of thing, but hopefully at least someone will get some joy out of it!

One of my d&d groups is about finished with a campaign, I presented this to them and then seem willing to give it a session or three before we move onto Pathfinder. It is a large group and I do not have everyone's vote yet, so we may split off into a smaller group to try it.

Hey, looks like a fun read, thanks for posting here! Nice to have some original content here, which we desperately need, so thank you so much. The PDF looks so nice! So many trainer classes from the games, I approve. I'd give you multiple upvotes if sockpuppeting were not against the rules. I can tell you put lots of effort into this.
