Hello,

I am looking into a possible position in Canada, in the B.C. area.

I've been reading a little about the healthcare system in Canada, as I have a spinal injury I am still receiving treatment for, as well as currently going to Mental Health Counseling and currently have some medication management.

I've found that prescriptions are generally not covered under the public healthcare system, and that Physical Therapy might not be either?

Would any of you have a place with a really clear and detailed breakdown of the Canadian Healthcare System?

Thank you very much for taking the time to read my post. Any advice or guidance you might be able to provide is greatly appreciated.

Hi!

I'm in Ontario, not BC, but I can provide a bit of info. Healthcare in Canada is provincially run. Disability is part provincial and part federal, I think. So, if you're thinking about moving to BC, look into BC healthcare. Many Canadians also pay for - either out of pocket or from their earnings as employment benefits - for private health insurance, to 'complement' public coverage. I don't know, as an Ontarian, but I'd guess that in BC PT isn't publicly covered (it might be if you have a disability) and prescriptions might be covered.

This page has info on medication coverage and how to access it. Might be a decent starting point: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/health/health-drug-coverage

Also, https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/home/get-help-with-government-services :
