This is for strictly mildly interesting material. If it's too interesting, it doesn't belong. If it's not interesting, it doesn't belong.

This is obviously an objective criteria, so the mods are always right. Or maybe mildly right? Ahh.. what do we know?

Just post some stuff and don't spam.

All tinpot dictators prefer this kind of "style".

This picture makes me fucking ashamed to be an american. What a backward-ass shithole country we've become.

[–] Teppichbrand@feddit.org 51 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (10 children)

And the election was not even rigged. You did this to yourselves in plain sight. It is super duper pathetic. From the boldest, most inspiring nation in the world to an insane, self-mutilating idiocracy in like a couple of decades. What the fuck!

[–] Cenzorrll@lemmy.world 122 points 1 week ago (9 children)

Let's be clear, all US elections are rigged in many different ways. This is why the Texas gerrymandering is an issue as well as North Carolina in the past, and I'm glossing over a lot of cases and other methods that are used because it isn't worth my time mentioning more than those two.

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 45 points 1 week ago

Another fact: one electoral vote accounts for 195,000 people in Wyoming and over 700,000 people in Texas, Florida or California.

No it was rigged. That's why they cried so hard when trump lost the first time. They all cried voter fraud because they were doing it themselves, after all, how could a cheater lose unless the other side is also cheating? They just learned how to do it better this time. Dump even talked about how muskrat knew all about voting machines. No one will ever convince me otherwise.

...it may have been... there's some evidence of tampering on the devices. Believing that helps me sleep at night.

There's a ton of scholarly and peer reviewed articles and studies on the "architecture of fascism" the "art of awe" etc, and how through history, grandiose and gilded decor and architecture has been used to manipulate, convince and enthrall the masses.

Example: https://www.ucpress.edu/books/propaganda-and-the-jesuit-baroque/hardcover

Even to this day, we have Wehraboos. If I am a historian and with plenty of time to research and make takedown videos on Nazism, which unfortunately i don't have at the moment, I want to make videos on dispelling the myth of Nazi superiority and how they are given way too much credit.

Plenty of people do not realise that the Nazis are not different to third world dictatorships. Similar to Trump having a fight with Federal Reserve director, Jerome Powell, Hitler didn't want to listen to his economic minister, Hjalmar Schacht, that Germany's excessive government spending is going to bankrupt the country. It was in late 1930s that Germany's coffers was running out, and it was not a coincidence that Hitler invaded Poland and, to his own surprise, the Allies declared war. Hitler was trying to plunder the wealth of Poland to stave off another economic collapse, like how the previous annexations of Sudetenland and Austria gave them financial cash injection to go a little further.

Fact of the matter is that Hitler and the Nazis were lucky to have inherited strong institutions, namely the Prussian military culture, to have lasted longer than expected. All things considered, the Nazis were merely poor gamblers whose bluffs were eventually called out and ran out of cards. The Nazis were just winging it (I mean, he did not expect the Allies to declare war on him, and he admitted that the planned invasion of France through the Ardennes forest turns his stomach), which is not too different to other tyrants and dictators like Nero, Idi Amin and Muammar Ghadaffi who make decisions on emotions.

People of various inclinations should just stop giving too much credit to the Nazis. I suspect that the current right, with their mountains of cash support from oligarchs, possess the machinery to perpetuate the propaganda to re-normalise fascism. Nonetheless, the Nazis are inherently weak and incompetent. People say that the Thousand Year Reich may well have happened if they won, but objectively they will run out of money in ten years even if they conquered the entire world, because they are that corrupt and incompetent.

Tacky as hell. This administration has all the class and style of a Spirit Halloween store.

[–] Zagam@piefed.social 43 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Spirit Halloween knows exactly what it is though. It's not posing or putting on a front. It may not be Sperrys with flat front olive chinos, but it's certainly not pretending to be anything but itself.

If you are intelligent you wouldn't need to talk about it because, people would know it from your thoughts and actions.

If you are a good leader you wouldn't need to talk about it because there would be more people following you than protesting you.

If you are good at making deals you wouldn't need to talk about it because you'd have a stack of deals to prove it.

If you are good at business you wouldn't need to talk about it because you would have a lot more successful companies than bankrupt companies in your history.

Etc etc etc.

This smacks of "look how well things are going !! If things were going badly would we be able to afford all this gold?"

Beware the man who is eager to tell you how good they are at something.

[–] Denjin@feddit.uk 39 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Donald Trump just has awful taste. He want to surround himself with shiny "gold" things and always has.

[–] frazw@lemmy.world 24 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Will that may be true in itself, but why does he fixate on gold in his decor? I'd argue it is about the projection of success. His hotels for instance, he wants them to be seen to be the best in the world so he puts gold everywhere in sight because in his simplistic view, money equals success and gold is the most visual representation of money without actually being money. Just my take on the why behind him liking shiny gold things. He's just importing it to the white house now.

I know people that like Trump in the UK and the thing I’ve realised is people don’t check anything, if orange man says something they believe it.

When I’ve been shitting on Trump my friend said yeah but he’s a good business man though and I’m like no he isn’t, he started life on easy mode and has messed that up several times. Hell man can’t even profit from a casino.

Sadly though it doesn’t matter if people are willing to believe a 5 second sound bite and it takes 5 minutes and some knowledge to debunk that claim then it’s futile as they’ll just put out more sound bites.

I find it ironic that in a world with a wealth of information at our finger tips people just don’t care enough to check. I’m not a smart man, but I was gifted with the power of curiosity and a willingness to look up stuff and find the truth. People are just ignorant on the whole and only care about surface level stuff.

If you ever get another Dem president, which is doubtful, it's going to take a minute to hose out the whore flair from the White House.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 50 points 1 week ago (6 children)

We need a working class president not some corrupt neoliberal democrat with no teeth

Ah yes, the look of every dictator's palace. Loads of gold. Only thing is, most dictators have a form of taste, Trump clearly does not.

I also didn't notice it until my friend pointed it out to me a month ago. I was too busy being upset when Trump and Vance bullied Zelenskyj to notice their hip hop gangsta crib at the time.

I hate to beat this very dead horse, but tacky is the thing that least jumps out at me here. I mean. This literally looks like Nazi decor. The eagles, the frowning busts, the ornateness, like...

[–] debil@lemmy.world 22 points 1 week ago

I can almost spot the remaining human rights in the lower image's fireplace.

[–] menemen@lemmy.ml 22 points 1 week ago (5 children)

You could have decided not to turn up the saturation to make it look worse, as it looks already terrible...
