The problem with that technology is that it looks like it uses LIDAR. It is literally a flashing beacon for anyone equipped to detect it to see. Any enemy who is technologically sophisticated enough will absolutely exploit that for detection, tracking and maybe even targeting purposes.

And it's not even that hard. I'm pretty sure anyone with a camera with the IR filter removed would see it flashing brightly from miles around.
