I find folding wire stocks on AKs, especially in 7.62, to be atrocious to shoot with. I wouldn't recommend them unless the shorter length for stowing is a very high priority.
While AMDs can have fixed stocks, it seems the folding ones were the standard. Probably a concession to cost and/or production time, but not one I think was the best tradeoff outside of the originally intended roles that actually need the shorter length.
