I just love these smaller events because things can just get more unhinged because the bots don't cost a hundred grand to make.

That is completely insane. I’m very curious who won.

No idea! I can't believe Monk Fish was moving that entire time and didn't go out to a KO, and that little mini bot managed to keep monk fish from being 100% cooked.

The ending where they showed what Monk Fish looked like pre fight and after fight was hilarious. On top of you know, the arena being trashed.

!Dutch oven by judges decision!<

Back in my day liquid, combustion, electricity, or any combination of those things, weren't allowed in our roboticide competitions.

Other bot was like: I’ll try spinning, that’s a good trick.

Can someone explain why it's two vs one?

[–] AFLYINTOASTER@lemmy.world 13 points 11 months ago (1 children)

There's weight classes like boxing, so think of it like one 150lb fighter verse a team of one 100lb and a second 50lb fighter. Both still make weigh-in, just different strats.

Thanks. That was my guess but I wasn't sure if there was more to it. Like they had to start connected or something

The rules allow for people to bring minibots in with the main one and they get a little weight bonus for it.

Actually if you look closer, there was another tiny bot rushing the flame bot at the start but it got destroyed right away, so it was 3 vs 1.

I think it was actually individual fighters, but the one guy was just so overpowered that the other two tried to gang up on him. And failed.

Imagine Carbide vs Dutch Oven.

How this is allowed?

[–] ericbomb@lemmy.world 11 points 11 months ago

I can only assume they grossly underestimated how much fuel could be in such a small bot!

All bots have their weapons and weight checked, so not like they snuck in illegal fuels or something. It just had more of a kick than they imagined I guess! They got the arena fixed for the next day as didn't do massive damage, just melted some plastic things. Just looks insane.

Dutch Oven vs Blendo, let's go.

I love the nhrl, such a fun league to watch.

Right! I do love the big boy leagues, but it feels a bit more repetitive since there are sponsors and a meta.

But down at these weights with how cheap the bots are in comparison it feels like people are more willing to try anything, or build a bot simply for the laughs.
