This looks so awesome! Is there any info on when this takes place in the Mana series? Is it a prequel or sequel to Trials of Mana? Or is it completely separate from Trials?

It's probably not connected to Trials of mana. But i don't know enough about the series to judge that, but the producer said this:
“I am delighted to finally be able to reveal Visions of Mana, the first mainline instalment to Mana series in over fifteen years,” said Mana series Producer, Masaru Oyamada. “The development team have been working hard to ensure that Visions of Mana remains faithful to the series that players know and love while also offering fans and newcomers a fresh new experience with an all-new story, characters, and gameplay mechanics. Yeeeees! This looks fantastic! I love the mana series I like that they make it more like a more modern take on what they did with trials of mana.
