Fuck u/spez
I hope spez chokes on his narcissism.
Hoping everything goes down in flames. Although I bet that he wouldn't think it was because if him.
Haha, guilty. I went to mindlessly pull up RIF at about 7 pm CT and it wasn't loading comments, then I went oh, right, UTC it's midnight. And now two hours later here I am on lemmy
Same here, I just got back from spending a day at the museum with my nephew, and after getting home I tried loading up RIF. Got the "429" and just sighed before looking up a mobile lemmy app.
Same story here but with Sync on Android. Looking forward to seeing where this goes.
Sync is coming to Lemmy so it will be like you never left.
Hey all, giving lemmy a try since RIF is gone
I'm on Connect, I hope the UI gets better, Lemmy has a lot of potential but it needs work
We'll have a ton of high quality options soon. Lots of the Reddit app devs are working on Lemmy apps. I wouldn't be surprised if almost all the ui code can be reused
Yeah, I really wish at least one of the major third party Reddit apps was able to launch their Lemmy version today, bit of course I understand it takes time
Try wefwef (the name sucks, idk why they picked it)
It's a web app that's really clean looking and smooth. Wish they would add a top (day/week/month) sort though for postings
It was weird using Reddit Is Fun like I always do then it just suddenly stopped.
I can't create a community. I click the button and nothing happens. Any idea why? I'm trying to recreate a community from Reddit that really helped me when I was in a dark place.
Hey, I would like to debug this community creation issue, but I haven't been able to reproduce this. Can you walk me through the exact steps that you're taking? What text are you inputting into the creation form?
I could probably do a screen share at some point if that would help.
I log in, go to "Create Community"
Name and display name are both "exJW"
No icon or banner
Description is a one sentence thing that I change every time I try to create it
Moderator checkbox is unchecked
Languages are English and Undetermined
I'm using FireFox for Android
Try on FF for Windows or Linux, on some instances I have had big problems with FF for android not accepting credentials
Other people have mentioned that using other browsers on android has worked for them, but I personally prefer to stick with what I trust
It has become muscle memory for me to open the app. My phone seems so empty now.
Same. Hopefully a good Lemmy app can take the old place Reddit is Fun had
Just gotta put a new app in its place!
Nice to have a new place to hang my virtual coat and peer into the endless void of the internet.
Was browsing Apollo, it ceased, I opened the Reddit app once, closed it, signed up for Lemmy.
I just moved Memmy into Apolloโs old place on the home screen. Iโm not touching the official reddit app.
Coming from Apollo? Go here: wefwef.app
๐ to everybody who's making this possible. There's hoping that all the traffic can be managed
Speaking of traffic, if I were interested in running my own federate, what can I expect in terms of loading and where is the content actually stored, my single instance or distributed? I see the reqs. on RAM and CPU utilization but I'm actually more curious about usage data.
It depends on many parameters. Data from your users is stored locally. But then you have federation: every time one of your users subscribes to a community of another instance, your instance will cache it locally. You can manage how much cache it uses, but the cache is there of a reason.
I want to create a community for my local city but when I click the button after entering the name, description, logo, etc. Nothing happens. Do I need to do something first?
Does it already exist on your instance? I think it needs to be lowercase too.
