Came over a few days ago, and the infrastructure is so much better in concept than Reddit ever was.

I just joined today and could use some assistance finding communities that I'd fit into. I'm into Cybersecurity and all matters of computing. If anyone has a suggestion please reply and thanks for having me :)
Welcome
Just uninstalled RIF this morning when I opened it up like I always do when I wake up.
It was a good run but dang. Now I'm trying to figure all of this fediverse stuff. The app Jerboa on Android seems to be working pretty well.
Hi there! What are some good subs for anyone trying to stay away from nsfw?
Yeah there's a checkbox for it under profile settings. There's a ton of great communities, I've subscribed to around 40. Once you get a good set of communities can just set your default to "Subscribed" in profile settings. That will be your front page. You don't really want to use "Local" because it may not be very active. "All" has a lot of stuff in it you may not want to see. There's a few communities where I don't ever want to see their content. See lemmyverse.net for community info. There's a lot of good communities on kbin as well (you can access those from Lemmy and vice versa).
Same for me. Woke up, launched Sync and got the message that it's not working anymore now and will work with Lemmy later. Immediately created an account here π
Sync has been great for me. Wonder why is wasn't more popular.
Sync refugee here too. Just joined this instance and patiently awaiting Syncs new Lemmy app!
Well it's coming to Lemmy which I'm excited about
Fellow Sync refugee here. So sad to see it go. I feel for all the devs that just got shafted. The only good takeaway is that we're here now and hopefully reddit will suffer for it.
They're making a Lemmy version so don't feel too bad
I just joined after Apollo stopped working. Iβve been over at squabbles since the black out. No idea how this place works. Excited to dig in and figure it out though!
If you arenβt sold on the interface then check out wefwef.app. No affiliation - just spreading the gospel. It feels like Reddit on Apollo, but here instead.
welcome!
edit: just realized this isn't even my instance but w/e, welcome to the fediverse!
2 things that really helped me: https://browse.feddit.de/ to find communities then search in the communities tab with name like community@instance.name
if it doesn't pop up try typing !community@instance.name then community@instance.name again to see if it comes up
basically new communities wont show on your community search tab until someone else on your server has searched and subscribed or interacted
lemmyverse.net too!
Sameβfinally had to do the thing, and my god, finding communities to follow has GOT to get a lot easier if this is gonna work out
Which bit are you struggling with? Would be useful to know how it's looking from a newbie perspective so we can make our explanations more effective. Also, welcome! π
Another refugee here. Coming from Sync.
Curious.. since Lemmy is still starting up, do we have the subredditd or the subcommunities setup here or is that still in progress?
I'd love to see day by day numbers on a chart of how many joined
well there is this - https://the-federation.info/node/details/50540
That's some pretty cool information
I was interested to see what the rush was going to be like when Reddit mobile apps shut down. Looks like it might be pretty significant. Is this bigger than the blackout rush?
Hello, my first comment here. How do I save images? (Iβm using wefwef app for ios btw)
I'm on wefwef on Android and I can just hold down on the image and the context menu has both download and copy. I don't have an iPhone to test if it's the same though
What app is most like Bacon Reader? I'm on Connect but feeling a little lukewarm so far
That's your best bet at the moment. Liftoff was another decent option but latest update doesn't see the lemm.ee instance for some reason. Things will get better on the app front in a month or 2 when Boost and Sync go live.
I'm on the Thunder train. Most like Sync.
