Dec. 11, 2023

  • Brush: Yaqi 26mm Synthetic
  • Razor: Gillette Super Speed Flare Tip
  • Blade: Treet Platinum
  • Lather: Wholly Kaw - Nightcap - Soap
  • Post Shave: Wholly Kaw - Nightcap - Aftershave

Great shave. I love this old razor even though it lacks the weight that I usually prefer.

December 11, 2023: Les lundis du Père Lucien

  • Preshave: Proraso Green Preshave
  • Brush: Yaqi 28mm Synthetic ""Rock""
  • Razor: Feather Artist Club SS Kamisori
  • Blade: Personna GEM PTFE (13)
  • Lather: Le Père Lucien Narcisse
  • Post Shave: Floid The Genuine
  • Post Shave: Nivea After Shave Balm

The blade entered into a bit of a rough patch - I hope it will smooth out soon. Narcisse is a great scent.

Have a good night!

EDIT: To all the stag enjoyers out there - you might want to try Fumoir des Anges by Annette Neuffer

HEAD: Rum Absolute, Green Cognac, Angelica, Szechuan Peppercorn, Bergamot, Blood Orange*, Clementine

HEART: Tobacco Absolute, Iris Germanica, Caramel, Honey, Bulgarian Rose Otto, Boronia, Red Frangipani, Lisylang, Olibanum

BASE Bourbon Vanilla, Tonka Bean, Cocoa, Patchouli, Siam Benzoin, Sandalwood, Vietnamese Crassna Oud, Labdanum, Myrrh, Beeswax, genuine white Ambergris

I personally find it too cloying, and my first reaction was you can't be serious, but initial contact with the Stag was similar. Maybe maybe maybe!

Fleur du Lundi

  • Brush: Chisel & Hound/Oumo Geaux 28mm Sparrow S-1 Knot
  • Razor: Blackland Razors Vector
  • Blade: Feather Artist Club Professional [2]
  • Lather: Spearhead Shaving Company - Seaforth! Fleur de France - Soap
  • Post Shave: Spearhead Shaving Company - Seaforth! Fleur de France - Splash
  • Fragrance: House of Mammoth - Beloved - Eau de Parfum

This reimagined French barbershop scent from Shawn Maher was a great way to start Monday morning. The alcohol-based AS really makes this scent shine.

Sticking with the lavender note of FdF, I decided to pair it with one of my favorites, Beloved. However, the mint, cedar, and lavender punch from Beloved overpowered the delicate FdF without remorse. #mammothmonday

This week I gave in and partook in Mammoth Monday. Santa Noir is a great scent. I won my trifecta (plus a dogwood brush which I didn't use today for some reason) in the raffle that Ben put on for the initial release.

That's a nice raffle win!

Luxury Shave™️

Got a new razor and a new soap. I didn't use the new soap for this luxury shave, but I did use the new razor.

I've been hemming and hawing about getting this razor for well over a year, and finally decided the time was right to part with $32 in order to get one.

I'm so glad I did! It has all of the charm of a Fatip, but, dare I say, none of the bite! It's too early to say, and this is just a first impression, but this razor is right up my alley.

I've used a Fatip il Piccolo (their standard OC non-slant head, and a Piccolo handle), and I have a Fatip Classic Lo Storto OC Slant to compare this with.

It feels mild, but I think it's one of those razors that might lull you into a false sense of security. A light touch goes a very long way. I only had a little bit of growth since shaving 10 hours ago, but as @djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social says, "the same number of hairs". A very nice, close shave.

Second Luxury Shaves ++

I've enjoyed the Lo Storto OC Slant, less bite than its reputation.

“the same number of hairs”

That's right, just shorter slices 🙂

[–] walden@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I like the slant better than the non-slant. It's slightly less scrapey.

[–] djundjila@wetshaving.social 2 points 11 months ago

@walden
I've only tried the two slants (Lo Storto, and Lo Storto Testa Gentile). I agree that they aren't scrapey

December 11, 2023 - Mammoth Micromatic Monday

  • Brush: Grizzly Bay Shire 26mm V18 Fanchurian

  • Razor: GEM MMOC Gen2

  • Blade: Personna Gem PTFE (1)

  • Lather: House of Mammoth - Indigo - Soap

  • Toner: Thayers - Lavender - Toner

  • Aftershave: House of Mammoth - Indigo - Splash

  • Talc: Yardley Classic

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

I am declaring shenanigans on my Murphy & McNeil The Great Bear soap. I tried to lather it, once again, today. I tried both face lathering and bowl lathering and could not get it to build any volume. This is the Kodiak base which I used yesterday and Saturday. With this recent experience, I know how the soap base should lather. Oh well. I like this soap but I can live without it.

So I pivoted to Indigo on this Mammoth Micromatic Monday. A jazz club smelling of black pepper, blueberry, rum, vetiver, and oud. What's not to love.

As usual, the MMOC was very kind to me. This razor fits my shaving style perfectly and has always been good to me. Lovely shave this morning!

Micromatic 2/7: Just a Micromatic Monday 🦣

  • Brush: Boti Motherlode knot in laminated wooden handle, 30mm
  • Razor: GEM Micromatic Open Comb (second generation, hold flat against face)
  • Blade: Personna GEM PTFE (1)
  • Lather: House of Mammoth Hygge
  • Aftershave: Spearhead Shaving Company Seaforth! Spiced
  • Fragrance: Spearhead Shaving Company 3 Scots

This second gen MMOC is from that fun batch that has "HOLD FLAT AGAINST FACE" engraved into the top cap. Because that's probably not clear enough for the average user, the razor came additionally with a tag bearing the same "HOLD FLAT AGAINST FACE" message attached to the handle by a string. We can say that I'm thoroughly instructed going into this SOTD.

This is the second of the five types of Micromatics I'm going through this week:

Right to left, in chronological order: (OC[MM)OC] gen 1, (OC[MM)OC] gen 2, Clog-Pruf gen 1, Clog-Pruf Gen 2 "Peerless", Flying Wing/Bullet Tip

The Motherlode lather monster created a huge amount of lather again. Maybe by the end of this week I'll be able to load for just three passes with this thing.

Hygge and Spiced/3 Scots work surprisingly well together even though they don't share a lot characteristics. I think both Hygge and Spiced being such warm scents and having this sweet citrus going on (bergamot/sweet orange in Hygge, mandarin in Spiced) makes them a good team, and I still think of 3 Scots as "fresh Spiced", so that one's a no-brainer.

Great shave! The (OC[MM)OC] can do no wrong.
