Micromatic 3/7: A Clog-Pruf Tabac Tuesday

  • Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts Tabak Oridjinal
  • Razor: GEM Micromatic Clog-Pruf, first generation, NOS
  • Blade: Personna GEM PTFE (1)
  • Lather: Mäurer & Wirtz Tabac Original
  • Aftershave: Mäurer & Wirtz Tabac Original
  • Fragrance: Mäurer & Wirtz Tabac Original

I literally don’t understand why people even make razors anymore since razor-making reached its zenith in the 1940s with the GEM Clog Pruf. - @merikus@sub.wetshaving.social

Great shave with the 1ˢᵗ gen Clog-Pruf (the middle child of the Micromatic family) and the Stank®. The brush keeps shedding large amounts of bristles, it's time to order a replacement knot and hope it arrives before this brush goes bald.

I can thoroughly agree with merikus' statement. GEM razors in particular are a great piece of engineering - still working flawlessly despite being almost (or in some cases over) 100 years old! Shame that DE blades took over in terms of popularity and availability. It's really hard to find good GEM blades over here nowadays.

Sorry to hear about your knot going bald 😔 as a headshaver, I can sympathise with it but unfortunately it won't yield the same good results as a full brush knot. Hope your replacement arrives in a timely manner!

It’s really hard to find good GEM blades over here nowadays.

Are you familiar with connaught shaving in the UK? They sell 100 packs for £14 and ship to Europe for £2, so even with the high import duties in the EU, it's a great way to get enough blades for years of shaving at a cheap price per blade.

Hope your replacement arrives in a timely manner!

Thanks!

I got a 100-pack by "Nassrasur-Shop" from Germany around 2021 and those still serve me well, but the shop owner is kind of... ugh. So my next replacement order will definitely be from Connaught, Thanks!

Lol, just noticing today that the Tech looks hilariously puny sitting next to the Chubby.

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

Wonderful shave. Sweet bay, rum and lime. A great scent and it reminds me that I'm out of rum, live in a sailing town, and require my daily grog. Some Ron Zacapa and fresh lime sounds like a winner to me!

[–] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

You live in a sailor town, and it's Lumumba season, and you don't have rum? oh, oh!

[–] gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

and you don’t have rum?

Crisis averted 😁

  • Brush: Maggard 24mm Tuxedo Synthetic
  • Razor: Fatip Classic Testina Gentile
  • Blade: Personna Lab Blue (2)
  • Lather: House of Mammoth - Santa Noir - Soap
  • Post Shave: Barrister & Mann - Reserve Fern - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: House of Mammoth - Mood Indigo - Balm
  • Post Shave: Harry's - Aftershave Balm
  • Fragrance: Brut - EdT

Another fantastic shave with the Fatip Gentile. Now that I've used it twice, I'm somewhat of an expert.

Blade alignment has always been poor on Fatips, requiring manual intervention. You can always get them aligned, but they don't naturally fall into place like with most other razors.

The Gentile is an improvement in this department, not because the blade does a better job aligning itself (it still sucks there), but because there's a visual reference to help center it. Open Comb Fatip's leave you darting your eyes back and forth, trying to decide if both sides are even. The Gentile safety bar has a visual line on each side that you can line the blade up with. It makes the process much easier.

December 12, 2023: Zingari Zischtig

I cannot let gcgallant carry the fine tradition of Zingari Zischtig all alone. I join with The Watchman. Like all Zingari soaps I have, very slick, easy to lather and with an intriguing scent.

Have a good night!
