someone's gonna be digging out that sharpie and rerouting the storm through flordia, and up the east coast through georgia, dc, and new york.
As a Californian, this could be a welcome respite in the middle of fire season if it dumps enough rain.
That being said, it's not good. Rainfall this late is going to throw harvest all out of whack, particularly in wine country. I'm guessing there's going to be a lot of Central Coast sweet wine on the market after this season -Botrytis cinerea thrives on a wet fall harvest. In 2017 (similar rainfall conditions) it was even found growing on Cabernet grapes, which are usually much more resistant to it than the white varietals.
The storm's remnants are likely to bring flooding rain as well as strong winds to some parts of California, including the Los Angeles Basin, the Weather Channel reports. Heavy rainfall is expected to impact the Southwestern U.S. starting Friday through early next week, "peaking on Sunday and Monday," according to the hurricane center. Postel said the storm will likely cause large swells along the coast in the next several days.
"It is rare — indeed nearly unprecedented in the modern record — to have a tropical system like this move through Southern California," Postel said.

Too much rain at once is rarely good. Especially when the soil is dry and can't absorb the water.
Doesn't really matter tbh, that happens every time we get decent rain fall...

This might make for a great spring in the Anza borrego. Might even be worth a trip.
